A GIS-BASED METHOD FOR DETECTING WINDBREAKS: INTEGRATING CORINE LAND COVER AND DIGITAL SURFACE MODELS

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-12-27, Lenka Lackóová, Maria Tarnikova, Andrej Tárník)

Windbreaks are key components of agricultural landscapes, mitigating wind erosion, protecting crops, enhancing microclimate stability, and supporting biodiversity. Despite their ecological and agronomic importance, spatially comprehensive inventories of windbreaks remain limited, particularly at regional and national scales. This study presents a semi-automated GIS-based method for identifying potential windbreak structures in the Malacky district of western Slovakia. Using the Land Parcel Identification System (L...

THE INFLUENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE BEGINNING OF FLOWERING OF PEAR (PYRUS COMMUNIS, L.) AND CHERRY (CERASUS AVIUM, L.) AND THE PROBABILITY OF SPRING FROSTS IN SLOVAKIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-12-15, Vladimír Kišš, Martin Minárik, Martin Prčík, Zora Snopková, Andrej Tárník)

Climate change is not the future, it is a hard, tangible and uncompromising present. Globally, the risk of crop reduction is increasing. Production shocks that used to occur once every 100 years or so in the past may occur every 30 years or more in the future. The development of fruit growing, as part of agricultural activities in the countryside, must record the impacts caused by climate change and apply the species structure of fruit trees in the regions of Slovakia, which will fully respect the biological requi...

THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION IN THE REGIONS OF SLOVAKIA IN 1961-2020

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Vladimír Kišš, Martin Minárik, Jakub Pagáč, Andrej Tárník, Martin Prčík)

Climate change affects everyday life, especially extremely high temperatures and longterm droughts alternating with intense rainfall. Changes in rainfall distribution and increasing temperatures force farmers to adapt to new conditions. In our contribution, we compared temperature deviations from the climatic normal and the percentage of precipitation from the climatic normal. For the complexity of the data comparison, a 60- year normal was created for 81 stations in Slovakia. Data interpolation created maps were ...

PRECIPITATION CONDITIONS EVALUATION IN SLOVAKIA FOR 1991-2020

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Vladimír Kišš, Andrej Tárník, Jakub Pagáč, Martin Minárik)

Climate change is the most pronounced in the last thirty years. In the world, but also in Slovakia, there are extreme temperatures and frequent periods of drought alternating with torrential precipitation. Neither of these two options is suitable for the country. The aim of this article was to determine the distribution of precipitation in the period 1991- 2020. Using the Mann-Kendall trend analysis, it was determined a statistically significant increase or decrease in precipitation in individual months of the yea...

World is changing rapidly. We are facing new reality and challenges. New global and complex solutions are needed to adapt to future reality. Tasks about landscape are coming to the forward more and more. It is necessary to speak about role of landscape in our life. Many points of view need to take into account when we want to speak about landscape and changes which are waiting for us in next decades. Question for researchers is how to obtain the best data for the best suggestions and recommendations for policy mak...
