URBAN AIR TEMPERATURES AND THE ROLE OF GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE: A 2024 CASE STUDY FROM ZILINA, SLOVAKIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-12-27, Vladimír Kišš, Martin Prčík)

The aim of this study is to analyse the impact of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect on temperature dynamics across various locations within the city of -ilina during the year 2024. The results reveal significant differences in temperature gradients between urban and rural areas, with urban zones such as Nemocnicna Street and the Vlcince housing estate exhibiting up to 16.6 % slower cooling rates on summer evenings compared to the rural locality of -ilinska Lehota. This phenomenon is attributed to the increased he...

IMPACT OF THE BUILT-UP AREA OF A CITY ON THE DIURNAL PATTERN OF TEMPERATURES DURING TROPICAL DAYS

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Martin Minárik, Vladimír Kišš, Martin Prčík, Ján Čimo, Maroš Turňa)

Approximately 5% of the area of Slovakia is made up of built-up areas and courtyards. These represent land where buildings and courtyards, motorways, roads, local roads, railways, airports, and water structures are built. To compare the influence of the urbanized part of the country on the daily air temperature, the city of Nitra, located in the western part of Slovakia, was selected. Meteorological stations are in the territory of the city, from which air temperature data were obtained. For the comparison of the ...

THE INFLUENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE BEGINNING OF FLOWERING OF PEAR (PYRUS COMMUNIS, L.) AND CHERRY (CERASUS AVIUM, L.) AND THE PROBABILITY OF SPRING FROSTS IN SLOVAKIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-12-15, Vladimír Kišš, Martin Minárik, Martin Prčík, Zora Snopková, Andrej Tárník)

Climate change is not the future, it is a hard, tangible and uncompromising present. Globally, the risk of crop reduction is increasing. Production shocks that used to occur once every 100 years or so in the past may occur every 30 years or more in the future. The development of fruit growing, as part of agricultural activities in the countryside, must record the impacts caused by climate change and apply the species structure of fruit trees in the regions of Slovakia, which will fully respect the biological requi...

THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION IN THE REGIONS OF SLOVAKIA IN 1961-2020

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Vladimír Kišš, Martin Minárik, Jakub Pagáč, Andrej Tárník, Martin Prčík)

Climate change affects everyday life, especially extremely high temperatures and longterm droughts alternating with intense rainfall. Changes in rainfall distribution and increasing temperatures force farmers to adapt to new conditions. In our contribution, we compared temperature deviations from the climatic normal and the percentage of precipitation from the climatic normal. For the complexity of the data comparison, a 60- year normal was created for 81 stations in Slovakia. Data interpolation created maps were ...

ASSESSING THE PRODUCTION POTENTIAL OF PURPOSE-GROWN ENERGY CROPS IN SLOVAK REGIONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Marian Kotrla, Kristina Mandalova, Martin Prcik)

One of the main objectives of EU energy policy is to increase the share energy from renewable sources to 20% by 2020, in view of increasing this share in the coming years. Sustainable and perspective source in diversification of share and its increasing are targeted grown energy crops. In Slovak regions, the share of the renewable sources in the gross final energy consumption is only 11.6%. Potential for growing energy crops is in all Slovak regions. In terms of soil factor is the possibility of growing on an area...
