IMPACT OF REGIONAL CLIMATE DYNAMICS AND URBAN LAND USE ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF AIRBORNE MICROORGANISMS AND FINE PARTICULATE MATTER ACROSS BULGARIAN CITIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Asen Peshev, Bilyana Grigorova-Pesheva, Georgi Kadinov)

The present study aims to track the influence of location and climate dynamics on the distribution and relationship of fine particulate matter (FPM) and airborne microorganisms. Hot spots, green urban areas and green peripheral areas in five Bulgarian cities with different climatic specificities were studied - Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Burga. The samples were collected using an air spinner. The total number of microorganisms was established, as well as the percentage of individual microbiological groups rel...

AIRBORN MICROORGANISMS IN HOT POINT AND GREEN AREAS AT DIFEERENT HIGHT OF GROUND AIR

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Asen Peshev, Bilyana Grigorova-Pesheva, Georgi Kadinov)

Air pollution is a major problem related to human health and the protection and quality of the environment. Increasingly emphasis is placed on the problems associated with fine dust particles, without paying enough attention to the potential problems associated with the increase of microorganisms in the ground air layer. The present pilot study aims to establish the dynamics in the number of microorganisms at different height in the ground air. Six hot spots and six green zones were analyzed at a distance from the...

SEASONAL DYNAMICS IN THE MICROBIOLOGICAL STATUS OF FOREST SOILS FROM THE TERRITORY OF VITOSHA NATURE PARK

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Bilyana Grigorova-Pesheva, Boyka Malchevа, Biser Hristov)

The health, richness, and variety of microbial life in soil represent basic indicators for the evaluation and surveillance of forest ecosystem vitality. The vital role these microorganisms occupy in forest ecosystems underscores the necessity to in-depth assess and monitor their populations within soil habitats. Aiming to deepen our comprehension of microbial communities across different soils and soils horizons, we conducted an investigation of 22 soil profiles situated within the territory of Vitosha Nature Park...

COMPOSTING OF BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC WASTE - CHANGES IN THE MICROBIAL COMMUNITY

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Bilyana Grigorova-Pesheva, Boyka Malchevа)

The present study aimed to track the changes in microbial communities during home composting of biodegradable plastic products (PLA). 6 waste mixtures and controls were prepared, with C:N about 30, placed in containers. The amount of PLA compared to the compostable mixture is 1%. Different depositing methods were used - active composting and placing part of the material in biodegradable bags. Temperature, humidity, pH, C:N ratio were measured. The amounts of bacteria, actinomycetes, micromycetes were recorded duri...

ANALYSIS OF THE MICROBIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DIFFERENT SOIL HORIZONS OF FOREST SOILS FROM THE TERRITORY OF VITOSHA NATURE PARK

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Bilyana Grigorova-Pesheva, Biser Hristov, Kameliya Petrova)

The status, abundance and diversity of soil microbial communities are one of the main basic indicators for the assessment and monitoring of forest ecosystems. In the context of the important role that microorganisms play in forest ecosystems, it is crucial to study and monitor their abundance in soil habitats. In order to supplement the knowledge about the soil microbial communities in the different soil horizons, we studied 16 soil profiles from the territory of Vitosha Nature Park. The soils from tested areas 1-...

STUDY OF INFLUENCE OF SOIL TYPE, VEGETATION, ALTITUDE AND ORGANIC CARBON CONTENT ON SOIL MICROBIAL ABUNDANCE

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Bilyana Grigorova-Pesheva, Kameliya Petrova, Boyka Malchevа)

Microbiological studies of forest soils are an important field of research due to the role of forest as carbon sinks and the main role of microorganisms in biogeochemical cycle and in the transformation of organic mass. Microbiological monitoring of soils in forest ecosystems is of key importance to achieve accurate and comparable data. This paper examines the interrelationship of soil microbial communities with different environmental characteristics. For the purpose of the study, the influence of soil type, the ...
