This research examines how Earth and Environmental Sciences are woven into and how important they are within higher education, particularly as a response to today's environmental problems. It highlights the key issue of their rather limited presence in curricula, which, it's argued, hampers students- preparedness for the sustainability challenges that define the 21st century. Primary data gathered on curriculum content, teaching methods, and how students perceive these, reveals a clear gap between current educatio...

This research explores whether multilingual education can boost understanding and involvement in environmental and earth sciences. The central question is whether having different languages in schools helps students grasp different scientific ideas better. A mixed-methods approach was used, gathering qualitative data from interviews and focus groups with teachers and students. Academic performance and how engaged students were in multilingual classrooms were also measured quantitatively. It turns out that students...

This research confronts the linguistic hegemony within geoscience education, which systematically marginalizes non-native English speakers and constrains global capacity building. Moving beyond merely identifying this barrier, the research proposes and evaluates concrete multilingual strategies to foster a more equitable and effective discipline. Through qualitative investigations, including interviews with educators, students, and professionals, and a systematic review of existing resources, we identify both best...
