Understanding the ability of plants to accumulate trace elements from soils is essential for environmental monitoring and phytoremediation studies. This research investigates the bioaccumulation capacity of the plant Amaranthus viridis and Chenopodium album in relation to the chemical composition of the soils in which it grows. Concentrations of trace elements including Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Co were determined in both plant tissues and corresponding soil samples. To evaluate the ability of the plant t...

The modernization and industrialization of the world contributes to create many ecological problems in the environment that affect every living organism. All the harmful pollutants that have been accumulating since the 1950s cause the greatest damage to the environment around us, which ultimately leads to global warming, climate change, and more. Harmful pollutants of the environment can be radiation, biological and chemical (organic and inorganic) substances. From inorganic chemicals heavy metals are most dangero...

PHYTOMEDIATION OF CONTAMINATED SOILS BY AMARANTHUS VIRIDIS IN BOLNISI, GEORGIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Guranda Avkopashvili)

The world modernization, global development, maximum utilization of minerals and ruthless treatment of the environment by humans have created many environmental problems around the world, and Georgia is no exception. One of the richest deposits in Georgia are in Bolnisi, where the RMG (formerly Madneuli) mine is functioning, located in Kazreti, on the right bank of the Mashavera River. Open-pit mining processes causes soil and water contamination, which do harms to human health and ecosystem. Remediation projects ...
