BACKGROUND CONCENTRATION OF AIR POLLUTANTS FOR SOFIA CITY - ANALYSIS FOR SUMMER AND WINTER MONTHS

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Hristina Kirova, Dimiter Syrakov, Maria Prodanova, Emilia Georgieva, Dimiter Atanassov)

The air pollution in many Bulgarian cities is of concern mainly due to high concentration of particulate matter (PM). Poor air quality has adverse health effects and is responsible for premature deaths and life loss. According to the World Health Organization air pollution remains the single largest environmental health risk in Europe. Additionally, negative effects of urban air pollution can be detected on buildings, cultural heritage, vegetation, biodiversity, etc. Air pollutant concentrations in the city depend...

ATMOSPHERIC DRY DEPOSITIONS IN THE SOUTHERN BULGARIAN BLACK SEA COASTAL AREA DURING SUMMER

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Emilia Georgieva, Hristina Kirova, Elena Hristova)

The southern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is characterized by numerous nature protected areas with high biodiversity, picturesque seashore landscapes and small villages that attract many tourists in summer. Despite the fact that the region is distant to big emission sources of anthropogenic pollution, air pollution and deposition can be significant for specific pollutants and seasons [1-2]. The main goal is to discuss recent data for dry depositions of oxidized nitrogen, reduced nitrogen and sulphur for t...

EVALUATION OF MESO-METEOROLOGICAL MODEL SIMULATIONS OF EXTREME WIND EVENT AT COASTAL REGION

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Damyan Barantiev, Ekaterina Batchvarova, Hristina Kirova, Orlin Gueorguiev)

Remote sensing measurements of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL) were performed with a monostatic Doppler sodar system during the period August 2008 - October 2016 near the Black Sea coastal town of Ahtopol. These high resolution data (10 m in vertical direction and 10 min in time) were used in the framework of the project REPLICA to obtain a reference extreme wind speed profile following the criteria for "rare" events of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Based on the defined reference profi...
