EVALUATION OF THE MEASUREMENT EFFECT IN THE PURGE TEST

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Gabriela Pupăzan, Tiberiu Csaszar, Marius Darie, Dănuț Grecea, Zoltan Vass)

The paper-s purpose is to quantify the measurement consequences in the purge test of equipment protected with the -p- type of protection. In order to achieve this objective, the authors involved a simulation process for a pressurization enclosure. The simulation was conducted, in the first stage, without measurement to obtain a reference after that simulation was conducted for scenarios involving sampling separately for each measurement point. The first part of the paper presented the risks of explosion and pressu...

EVALUATION OF THE OILS STABILITY OBTAINED BY CULTIVATING SOME SUNFLOWER HYBRIDS HIGH OLEIC HIGH STEARIC ( HOHS) IN THE WESTERN REGION OF ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Iuliana Popescu, Adalbert Okros, Simona Niţă, Ersilia Alexa)

The oil obtained from linoleic sunflower hybrids grown mainly by Romanian farmers shows a low oxidation stability. In the period 2021-2023, high oleic and high oleic high stearic sunflower hybrids were cultivated experimentally in the western part of Romania. A good climatic and pedological adaptability was observed both in the intensive conventional culture and in the biologic one. The fatty acid profile showed the same characteristics. The oil obtained from linoleic sunflower hybrids grown mainly by Romanian far...

In chemical processes, fire and explosion prevention is crucial, especially when flammable liquids or gases are present because they can create explosive atmospheres of gas or vapour in the air. These include oil-based products and organic solvents. It is essential to understand these compounds' characteristics as well as the size of an explosive atmosphere. Explosion hazards as well as the locations where explosive atmospheres are present can be identified and assessed. Safety data sheets also contains crucial in...

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Sindija Liepa, Dace Butenaite, Jovita Pilecka-Uļčugačeva, Kristaps Siltumens, Inga Grīnfelde)

Agricultural activity accounts for two-thirds of the total anthropogenic nitrogen oxide (N2O) emissions worldwide. Most of the N2O emissions from agricultural soils come from the use of inorganic fertilizers and/or manure. As agricultural activity intensifies worldwide, N2O emissions are currently increasing by 0.25% per year. In order to investigate the feedback of soil N2O emissions with changes in environmental conditions, an improved understanding based on the wider use of isotopic tracer methods is needed. Th...

GREEN ROOFS AS URBAN ECOSYSTEMS FOR POST-INDUSTRIAL NOVEL ECOSYSTEMS' VEGETATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Magdalena Biela, Artur Biela, Natalia Malcherczyk, Edyta Sierka)

We present a study on the responses of plants from three functional groups: grasses, forbs, and legumes, deriving from a coal mining waste heap, to changes in environmental stress factors. The aim of this work is to identify plant responses to environmental stress resulting from the transfer of plants from the waste heap to the waste substrate and an extensive green roof with a thickness of 15 cm. After one year of growth, selected functional traits were analysed: including height, specific leaf area (SLA), and ch...

The continuous development of human society from a technical-economic point of view is closely related to the increase in energy consumption. However, this implies the rapid depletion of existing fossil fuels and an accelerated increase in global pollution. At the moment, to counteract these impediments, one of the most important sources that can be used for the purpose of energy production, without having a negative impact on the environment, is hydrogen. Due to the fact that, when mixed with air, hydrogen can ge...

With the rapid growth of the population and urbanization, the demand for industrial production has continued to increase, and industrial solid waste has become more and more abundant. Industrial solid waste mainly includes fly ashes, slags, tailings, red mud, bottom ashes and other wastes, which account for approximately 80% of the total waste produced on Earth. Industrial wastes generally contain various heavy metal components such as Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, Cr, As, Ba and Mn. The low recycling rate of solid waste result...

HOW SUSTAINABLE AND GREEN IS TODAY'S MODERN PRINTING INDUSTRY? MYTHS AND FACTS

Going green ... So many projects to reduce environmental impact start this way and continue with the first task being to eliminate printed communication and go paperless and digital. All this is not driven by thoughtful environmental considerations, but by an aversion to paper-based communication that is wrongly anchored in the social consciousness. The authors draw attention to the misconceptions that people have about paper-based communication, showing that they are untrue and that they are often used to greenwa...

In recent years, the maritime industry was shifting towards sustainable practices, focusing on minimising environmental impact and maximising energy efficiency. Fishing vessels are increasingly adopting hybrid energy systems to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. However, finding the optimal hybrid energy configuration specifically determined for a certain vessel type, its technical specifications, and operational requirements remains a complex challenge. This paper presents the development of an user-friendly...

Hypospadias is a developmental abnormality in which the male urethra opens on the underside of the penis or on the perineum and can be accompanied by penile aplasia or hypoplasia, hypoplasia of the corpus cavernosum, incomplete formation of the prepuce, or cryptorchidism [1]. In animals, it rarely appears in horses, sheep, goats, cattle, dogs, and cats as isolated cases with urogenital anomaly or with other abnormalities [2,3]. The aim of this paper is to present the hystological results in a crossbred calf seen w...

Water and sediments in coastal areas interact at different scales, thus shaping the marine environment and providing physical habitat for ecosystems. Hence, the hydromorphological conditions represent a key aspect of aquatic ecosystems considered in the Water Framework Directive as supporting quality elements (alongside the physicochemical), which are expected to provide the boundary conditions for the biological quality elements. Any alteration in those can reshape the corresponding biological conditions at vario...

Since putting in operation of Chernomorets fishing port (Sozopol municipality, southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast) in January 2016, a number of negative effects have been observed in the area. The disturbance in the existing hydrodynamic balance led to intense coastal erosion and unwanted sand accumulation in the wave shadow area. Additionally, the coastal water quality has deteriorated in the port area. In order to undertake measures to mitigate the observed adverse effects, it is necessary to assess in detail th...

IMPORTANCE OF STATIC TESTS FOR THE PREDICTION OF AMD POTENTIAL OF CEMENTED PASTE BACKFILL

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Ferdi Cihangir, Ercüment Koç, Mürsel Orak, Taha Yavuz Deveci, Bayram Erçıkdı)

Cemented paste backfill (CPB) is an engineering mixture of mine tailings, cement and water. Tailings can commonly contain sulphidic minerals. In this case, acid mine drainage (AMD) may occur due to the oxidation of sulphidic minerals present in the body of the CPB. In general, AMD lowers the pH of the medium and water environment and may cause heavy metal release. Therefore, AMD potential is an important parameter to be considered with regard to environmental aspect. Static tests are widely used to determine the A...
