TESTING THE MYCOREMEDIATION OF POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS IN POWER PLANT ASH USING OYSTER MUSHROOM

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Martin Pavlík, Lucia Ungvarska-Malucka, Anna Uhrinová, Marek Dzurenko, Ivan Repáč)

Ash accumulating in a power plant-s ash pond represents a significant environmental burden for both nature and the people living nearby. For several years, we have been exploring the potential use of fungi, particularly the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus), in the remediation and filtration process to ultimately achieve the revitalization of the ash pond site. The ash is mixed into a substrate based on European beech (Fagus sylvatica) wood chips, with the addition of two production strains of oyster mushroom....

The Mushroom Training and Resource Centre (MTRC) is an organization aimed at helping to improve the standard of living for current and future generations of rural residents in Uganda through mushroom cultivation and sales. This community organization was established in 2007 with the primary objective of teaching people from marginalized rural areas how to cultivate the oyster mushroom in a simple and sustainable manner. The fungi are grown on agricultural plant waste, which is transformed into valuable food. The p...

MYCORESTORATION - OVERVIEW OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF USING FUNGI IN COMMUNAL ENVIRONMENTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Martin Pavlík, Marek Dzurenko)

The increase in human population brings an increase in consumption, higher pressure in often limited space and growth of waste, particularly in communal environments. Out of the huge volume of communal waste, a portion is composed of biologically degradable and other waste, that could be recycled utilizing eco-friendly means - e.g. fungal activity. This includes plant waste from gardens, yards, parks, orchards and forests, or plant debris not utilized by other ecologically and economically useful means. In this co...
