TYPES OF ANTHROPOGENIC IMPACT ON WATER QUALITY IN THE CHEPINSKA AND CHEPELARSKA RIVER BASINS USING WATER QUALITY INDICES AND AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE PLEIADES-1A AND SPOT 6 SATELLITE DATA

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Emilia Tcherkezova, Marian Varbanov, Gergana Metodieva, Kristina Gartsiyanova, Stefan Genchev)

The aim of this work is twofold: to identify the dominant types of anthropogenic impact on SWQ in the Chepinska and Chepelarska River basins to localise the hot spots of pollution; and to obtain the main land cover units from Very High Resolution (VHR) Airbus Pléiades-1A and SPOT 6 imagery. The assessment of anthropogenic impacts on SWQ is based on an analysis of more than 10 physicochemical parameters, and the CCME WQI, WAWQI, and HPI indices were used. The results show different types of water pollution in the ...

ASSESSMENT OF THE CHEPINSKA RIVER WATERS QUALITY THROUGH THE COMBINED USE OF DIFFERENT INDICES

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Marian Varbanov, Kristina Gartsiyanova, Stefan Genchev, Gergana Metodieva)

The article analyzes and evaluates the current status of the water quality of the Chepinska River. It is one of the main right-hand tributaries of the Maritsa River, and large settlements are located in its catchment area and active agricultural activity is carried out. They cause a strong anthropogenic impact and a significant change in water quality. The heterogeneous impact requires the assessment to be carried out by using a complex of indices that includes the Canadian Water Quality Index (CCME WQI), the Bava...

THE WATER SOURCES IN THE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM OF THE TOWN OF BERKOVITSA

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Maria Temelkova, Marian Varbanov)

Berkovitsa is a small town located in Berkovitsa Mountain. The town is situated in an area with a dense hydrographic network but still encounters difficulties in water supply. The purpose of the study is to make an analysis of changes in water demand in the town of Berkovitsa, assessed by the Water Stress Index. The water supply in the municipality of Berkovitsa is taken care of by the operator "ViK Berkovitsa" EOOD. The separate territory of ViK Berkovitsa EOOD consists of a total of six different sized water sup...

ANALYSIS OF HEAVY METAL POLLUTION IN THE PIRDOPSKA AND MEDETSKA RIVERS, TRIBUTARIES OF THE TOPOLNITSA RIVER, BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Kristina Gartsiyanova, Marian Varbanov, Atanas Kitev, Stefan Genchev)

Harmful substances like heavy metals are very important group of pollutants which can cause considerable detriment to the environment if they exceed certain concentrations. The aim of this study is to define the concentrations of Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, As, Zn, Cd and Ni in the waters of the Rivers Pirdopska and Medetska, tributaries of the Topolnitsa River, Bulgaria for the period 2015-2019. In the analysis of the heavy metal content Water Quality Index (Canada), as well as statistical and graphical methods were applied....

TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF HYDRO ENERGY IN BULGARIA AFTER 1989

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Maria Temelkova, Marian Varbanov)

The priorities in the policy of the energy sector of the Republic of Bulgaria after 1989 are in harmony with the requirements of the European directives and market mechanisms. An important aspect is the policy to promote the use of renewable energy sources (RES), which aims to achieve sustainable energy development and improve environmental performance. It is also related to the implementation of the commitments made by the Republic of Bulgaria regarding the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (1...
