THE AIR TEMPERATURE PROFILE ABOVE THE NON-GREEN AND GREEN FLAT ROOF OF LARGE BUILDING AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF ROOFTOP HVAC UNIT

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Martin Kovac)

Two variants of roof construction were compared. It is a non-green roof and the extensive green roof. The analysis of surface temperature of flat roof was provided by the simulation in DesignBUILDER v7. The surface temperature of extensive green roof was lower up to 28 K in comparison with the non-green roof. The results from DesignBUILDER were used as data input for the CFD model in ANSYS CFX. The results from CFD model showed that the outside air temperature close to the surface of non-green roof can rise to 3.7...

THE HEAT LOAD THROUGH THE ROOF OR ENERGY DEMAND FOR COOLING OF THE ROOM UNDER THE ROOF - WHICH APPROACH TO THE EVALUATION OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF GREEN ROOF IN SUMMER TO CHOOSE

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Martin Kováč)

The extensive or intensive green roofs are today the common solution for roofs at new and retrofitted buildings in different climatic regions. In terms of region where the building is located the thermal insulation in the roof is or not. In the direction from the equator further the thermal insulation in the roof is important to decrease the heat flow from the building to the exterior during winter months. The presence of thermal insulation on the roof also influences the heat load of rooms under the roof during s...

SIMULATION OF HEAT TRANSFERS THROUGH INTER-FLAT CONSTRUCTIONS IN THE APARTMENT HOUSE

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Martin Kováč, Katarina Kovacova)

The idea to analyse the heat transfer between flats through internal walls is based on long-time question: ?How much will the heating demand of a flat increase if the neighbouring flat is not heated or uses a attenuation heating mode during the day??. It is a very complex question due to the complexity of the task and there are many factors that influence the heat transfer between flats. The goal of analysis is to find out how the material of inter-flat wall affects the heat transfer between flats by using differe...

THE IMPACT OF NIGHT VENTILATION/PRE-COOLING ON A COOLING DEMAND IN AN OFFICE BUILDING

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Martin Kováč, Marek Hricisin)

The paper presents results about a decreasing of a cooling demand in the selected office building where the night ventilation/pre-cooling of building construction is used. The energy saving is about 10 - 15% in comparison with operation of this Office building without using of night ventilation/pre-cooling of building constructions. Mechanical ventilation is used in this selected Office building and the airflow volume was calculated by using the technical standard STN EN 16798-1. These results we got by using ener...

CFD SIMULATION OF AIR TEMPERATURE STRATIFICATION IN HISTORICAL BUILDING OF THEATRE

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Martin Kováč)

This article describes the research aimed at analyses of the present state of indoor environment in historical building of State Theatre in Kosice. The representative building of the State Theatre was built in a Neo-baroque style according to projects of Adolf Lang during the years 1879-1899. The goal of research is to take measure the level of indoor air quality, improve the energy performance of building and its HVAC systems. The one of many partial tasks is also the analyses of air temperature stratification in...

THE IMPACT OF NIGHT-TIME PRE-COOLING ON THERMAL COMFORT IN A FAMILY HOUSE

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Martin Kováč)

The content of paper is theoretical case study of family house where the impact of night pre-cooling on operative temperature is analysed. The living space under pitched roof was selected for case study purposes. There are compared two types of building constructions. On the one hand side there is the wooden lightweight construction and on the other hand side there is the heavyweight construction made of reinforced concrete. The mechanical ventilation system provides for the required air change rate in living spac...
