MAGNETIC METHODS FOR DELINEATION OF HEAVY METAL POLLUTION IN BURGAS REGION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, N. Jordanova, D. Jordanova)

Magnetic susceptibility mapping and rock magnetic characterization of topsoils from southeastern Bulgaria near the Black sea coast was carried out for delineation of the anthropogenic pollution. The presence of strongly magnetic parent material (volcanites, volcanoclastic sediments) and various soil types (Vertisols, Luvisols, Chromic Cambisols, Planosols, Fluvisols) were taken into account by using normalization of the field susceptibilities to the median susceptibility value, calculated separately for each soil ...

APPLICATION OF MAGNETIC METHODS FOR ESTIMATION OF THE DEGREE OF SOIL POLLUTION IN THE AREA OF VARNA – DEVNJA INDUSTRIAL ZONE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2007, D. Jordanova, N. Jordanova)

Magnetism of soils is determined by the amount of strongly magnetic minerals, which may have different origin – inherent from the parent rocks (lithogenic); “in situ” formed during pedogenesis (pedogenic) and anthropogenic – from atmospheric deposition of particulates emitted from various industrial productions, which together with heavy metals contain also magnetic fraction. Due to the latter contribution, magnetic susceptibility of strongly polluted topsoils is significantly higher than the signal of non...
