ESTIMATION OF THE JOINT ROUGHNESS COEFFICIENT OF UNIAXIALLY COMPRESSED ROCK SAMPLES USING A 3D SCANNER

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Pavel Tsoi, O. A. Usoltseva)

Discontinuity of rocks under uniaxial compression may be accompanied by a cleavage of one part relative to the other. Such a phenomenon is also observed in laboratory testing experiments. The cleavage area is geometrically an uneven rough surface. In modern practice, the level of roughness is usually characterized using the Barton-Choubey scale, where the visual profile of the discontinuity is correlated to the corresponding value of the joint roughness coefficient (JRC), varying in the range from 0 to 20. But in ...

STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF SHALE AND SILSTONE OF LAYERED STRUCTURE UNDER SHEAR LOADING

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, O. A. Usoltseva, Pavel Tsoi)

The laboratory study was conducted to investigate the effect of the angle of stratification on the strength properties of samples of anisotropic shale and siltstone containing sandstone interlayers under shear loading with coupled compression in this paper. The samples of shale and siltstone were tested at various combinations of the orientation of bedding angles ? relative to the sample axis and the orientation of angles of shear plane ? relative to orientation of the stratification of samples. The experimental c...

SHEAR BEHAVIOR OF ROCK JOINTS WITH SURFACE ROUGHNESS UNDER CONSTANT NORMAL STIFFNESS

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, O. A. Usoltseva)

The test-measuring complex was created to study deformation and strength properties of rock samples with joints under direct shear conditions, under two types of boundary conditions: constant normal load (CNL) and constant normal stiffness (CNS). The updated version of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) ASTM D 5607-08 standard was taken as the basis of the laboratory method for determining the shear strength of rock joints. Tests were performed on samples with joints from artificial geomaterial ? ...

INVESTIGATION OF STRENGTH AND MICROSEISMIC EMISSION CHARACTERISTICS OF ROCK JOINTS UNDER SHEAR LOADING

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, O. A. Usoltseva)

The geological environment is essentially heterogeneous, consists of blocks, layers, lenses, joints of various shapes and sizes, lying horizontally, obliquely or in the form of complex folds in the earth's crust, and it is characterized by great complexity and heterogeneity. The shear in the direction of the joint is one of the main reasons for the destruction of the underground tunnels and mine workings, wellbores. Understanding of shear behavior allows optimal design of mining facilities and prediction of the ge...
