DIGITAL MODLING OF FLOODS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, M. Gergelova, B. Kirov, P. Blistan)

Highly accurate digital terrain model (DTM) is nowadays considered to be a top-level tool for modeling processes on earth surface. Particularly important is its application in the regions endangered by natural disasters – especially floods. Occurrence of extreme flowage – floods in the past few years has not only intensified, but began to interfere in to regions, that up till now didn´t experienced floods. Each year brings greater damage on properties and infrastructure. Potential size of inundated area, prog...

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS - AN EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENT FOR MODELLING EFFECTS OF MINING ACTIVITY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, P. Blistan, L. Koziakova)

GIS of mining corporation like an efective implement for modelling effects of mining aktivity. Geodetic observations constitute the basic sources of data for GIS. Using data transferred into this environment, it is possible to create digital models of undermined areas. The use of geographic information system enables various analyses of further movements of points inside the observed area. On the base of product ArcGIS will be activated system for monitoring effects from mining activity in the location Solivar near...

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN GEOLOGY – EFFICIENT TOOL ALLOWING EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION OF DATA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2007, P. Blistan, L. Vizi)

Introduction of the GIS in geology in Slovakia has carried forward dearly during few past years, but even though, in many cases there are not used all analytical possibilities of the GIS and the works are concentred on a basic modelling of the geological phenomenon and its presentation in a paper form. That’s probably the reason why the costs spent for implementation of the GIS in geology are considered as a less effective or a lossy. Pay back period, as short as possible, is possible to achieve only by a comple...

A CONTAMINATION SOURCE IN S. SLOVAKIAN KARST AND THE PROPOSAL OF A GIS BASED MONITORING SYSTEM

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2001, L.Tometz, G. M. Timcak, P. Blistan)

The paper elaborates the risks of underground water contamination in the Slovakian Karst. First the geology of the area is given, then the hydrogeologic background is detailed. A number of measurements were taken in the vicinity of a crude oil pipeline that indicate the high risks of having the pipeline there. Lack of in-built monitoring system in the pipeline may increase the risk. Finally a GIS based monitoring system is proposed.
