In absence of core samples and open-hole well-log data, the broken bits of rock removed from the borehole during the drilling process represent in many cases the only lithological data that is recovered from a well. The main objective of this study was to build up a lithological profile and to use the data in order to improve the knowledge about the local geology (Quaternary deposits). Lithological information at shallow depth is generally used to better understand the local site effects, known to play an importan...

SUBSURFACE DATA OF THE EDIACARAN SEDIMENTARY SERIES FROM THE SOUTH-WESTERN PART OF THE EAST-EUROPEAN PLATFORM

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Ion Francovschi, Eugen Gradinaru, Relu Dumitru Roban, Valerian Ciobotaru)

Based on lithological and geophysical logging data obtained from shallow and deep boreholes drilled in the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Romania, it has been possible to map out the distribution of Ediacaran deposits across the south-western part of the East-European Platform. The Ediacaran sedimentary strata extend throughout the studied territory. Complete sections generally have a thickness of between 400 and 500 m, with a monoclinal dip of less than 1пїЅ from north-east to south-west towards the Carpathian ...
