DOWNHOLE LITHOLOGICAL PROFILE OF RAMNICU VALCEA SEISMIC SITE BASED ON DRILL

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Andrei P. Mihai, Relu-Dumitru Roban, Victorin Emilian Toader, Iosif Lıngvay, Ovidiu Ciogescu)

In absence of core samples and open-hole well-log data, the broken bits of rock removed from the borehole during the drilling process represent in many cases the only lithological data that is recovered from a well. The main objective of this study was to build up a lithological profile and to use the data in order to improve the knowledge about the local geology (Quaternary deposits). Lithological information at shallow depth is generally used to better understand the local site effects, known to play an importan...

FORECAST EARTHQUAKES USING ACOUSTIC EMISSION

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Victorin Emilian Toader)

Microfracturing and rock deformation as effects of tectonic stress generates sounds called acoustic emission. Many reporting on the earthquakes say that first people hear a noise and then they feel the two shocks (P and S waves). How is this possible as long as the speed of sound is less than the P wave speed? This article gives an answer for these question. An earthquake is an effect of high tectonic stress in an area (hypocenter) and the last part of this process is the loss of elasticity of rocks followed by br...
