ABANDONED LOCATIONS AFTER MINERAL EXPLORATION - ENVIRONMENTAL BURDEN OR PERSPECTIVE SOURCES OF RAW MATERIALS?

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Peter Šottník, Tomáš Faragó, Ondrej Brachtýr, Jaroslav Vozár)

Mining wastes represent a specific type of waste and, like sites after mining, represent sites where a comprehensive assessment of pollution at these sites needs to be approached, taking into account various specific conditions. Subsequently, the design of the remediation technologies used at a specific location must also be adapted to this fact. Until now, mining waste facilities (heaps and sludge ponds) have been treated as environmental burdens. However, it should be borne in mind that abandoned extractive wast...

APPLICATION OF STABILIZING AGENTS IN CONTAMINATED SOILS OF OLD MINING AREAS

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Tomáš Faragó, Patrik Čermák)

Soil pollution by potentially toxic elements (As, Sb, Cu, Zn, Pb) near the mining areas has become a serious environmental problem. These risk elements can be released into the environment, causing a risk to human health. Stabilized pollution in various materials may constitute an additional risk in the long term. Organic acids play an important role in mobilizing contaminants. In the present work, various stabilizing agents (iron nanoparticles - nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI), amorphous manganese oxide (AMO), b...

MACROMYCETES AND PLANTS FROM AREAS AFFECTED BY ANTIMONY MINING - BIOCONCENTRATION FACTORS

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Ivona Kautmanová, Eliška Gbúrová Štubňová, Bronislava Lalinská‐Voleková, Tomáš Faragó)

Species of macrofungi were collected from extremely polluted sampling spots in the vicinity of abandoned antimony mines in Slovakia. Concentrations of potentially toxic elements in plants and fungi were determined by ICP-MS and in soils and sediments by both ICP-MS and ICP-ES. Of the edible species the highest values of arsenic and cadmium were recorded in Agaricus arvensis, lead in Imleria badia and representatives of the genera Boletus, Leccinum and Suillus accumulated high levels of mercury. Suillus species als...

MICROBIAL COMPOSITION OF NATURAL Fe OXYHYDROXIDES AND ITS INFLUENCE ON ARSENIC AND ANTIMONY SORPTION

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Bronislava Lalinská‐Voleková, Hana Majerová, Ivona Kautmanová, Tomáš Faragó, Dana Szabóová, Jana Brčeková)

The presented paper represents a comprehensive analysis of hydrous ferric oxides (HFOs) precipitated from Fe rich drainage waters contaminated by arsenic and antimony. Ochre samples from three abandoned Sb deposits were collected in three different seasons and were characterized from the mineralogical, geochemical, and microbiological point of view. They were formed mainly by poorly crystallized 2-line ferrihydrite, with the content of arsenic in samples ranging from 0.7 wt.% to 13 wt.% and content of antimony ran...
