HEAVY AND TOXIC ELEMENTS DISTRIBUTION IN MAGNETICALLY SEPARATED FRACTIONS FROM COAL FLY ASHES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. Shoumkova, V. Stoyanova)

The analytical results for the concentration of about 50 elements in magnetic fractions, obtained by wet low intensity magnetic separation of fly ashes from six coal burning power plants in Bulgaria, have been compared to the data previously reported [1] for the initial fly ashes. It has been found that the total content of heavy and toxic elements in magnetic fractions is lower than that in the source materials. The concentrations of Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, and, in some ashes, of V and Cu are almost proportional to the c...

PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF PYRITE CINDERS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. Shoumkova, V. Stoyanova)

A detailed investigation of physical and chemical properties of pyrite cinders from sulfuric acid production has been carried out by employing variety of analytical methods and techniques, including ICP-MS, XRL, XRD, M\"ossbauer Spectroscopy, SEM-EDX, SQUID, TGA, etc. The study is focused on the investigation of the content and distribution of about 50 micro- and trace elements in magnetically separated fractions, and among/within individual particles. It has been found that many heavy metals exist in easily avail...

SEM-EDX IDENTIFICATION OF PARTICLES FROM FOG IN AN INDUSTRIALLY POLLUTED REGION OF CZECH REPUBLIC

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, V. Stoyanova, A. Shoumkova, J. Fisak, TS. Tsacheva)

The properties of individual particles, rather than bulk aerosol characteristics, determine the environmental and health impact of the atmospheric pollutants. Single particles have been sampled during 30 fog episodes at the mount Milesovka (837 m a.s.l.) located in the industrially polluted area of north Bohemian brown coalfield. More than 2000 of these solid, water insoluble particles, collected from May 2006 till July 2007, have been analyzed by SEM-EDX and classified according to their shape, size and elemental...

TRACE ELEMENTS IN FLY ASHES FROM “VARNA”, “BOBOV DOL”, “MARITZA IZTOK I”, “MARITZA ІІІ”, „REPUBLIKA” AND “ROUSSE IZTOK” POWER PLANTS, BULGARIA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2006, A. Shoumkova, V. Stoyanova)

A comparative study of the content of five macro- and about fifty micro- and trace elements in fly ashes from six coal-burning power plants in Bulgaria is carried out by means of a combination of Chemical Analysis, AAS, X-Ray Luminescence and X-Ray Fluorescence EDA. The elements’ distribution among and within single particles is investigated on the base of the comparison of data from bulk analysis, micro-analysis, and the results from acid leaching tests using 0.1M HNO3. It is established that many heavy metals ...
