CO2/N2 SEPARATION YIELD BY USING MIXED MATRIX MEMBRANES BASED ON MESOPOROUS SILICA IN ORGANIC POLYMER

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Marius Miricioiu, Violeta Niculescu, Nadia Paun, Gheorghe Nechifor)

The CO2 removal from N2 using unconventional techniques based on different (various) membranes has known a significant interest in industry. Mixed matrix membranes combine the advantages of organic (easily processable and low cost) and inorganic phases (high selectivity, mechanical resistance, chemical and thermal stability). In this study, membranes with polysulfone matrix and MCM-41 (silica) as filler were obtained, characterized and tested. The mixed matrix membranes were prepared by casting method. The effects...

EXPERIMENTAL SET-UP FOR SIMULTANEOUSLY WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND CARBON DIOXIDE SEPARATION THROUGH POROUS MATERIALS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Violeta Niculescu, Marius Miricioiu, Elena David, Adrian Armeanu)

The growing demand for wastewater treatment encourages the development of alternative processes. Some of the main characteristics required of these alternative processes are a small footprint, ease of operation, low sludge generation and improved efficiency. Among the current technologies, the Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) and the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) are alternatives that combine some of these required characteristics. On the other hand, ever since 1959, when the term пїЅnanotechnologyпїЅ was introduced,...

FUNCTIONALIZED MESOPOROUS SILICA NANOPARTICLES AS NOVEL SYSTEMS FOR NATURAL ANTHOCYANINS STABILITY ENHANCEMENT

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Nadia Paun, Violeta Niculescu, Radu Tamaian, Marius Miricioiu)

Anthocyanins are known as safe colouring materials, although they have poor stability which often limits their use. To solve this drawback, mesoporous silica with high surface area was used as an adsorbent for anthocyanins. This study proposes the enhancement of the anthocyanins photo stability by their incorporation into the pores of mesoporous silica containing various metal ions. The anthocyanins were adsorbed on the silica by pouring a highly-concentrated anthocyanins solution to the dried silica. Improved sta...

MESOPOROUS SILICA - EFFICIENT MEDIA FOR PHENOLS REMOVAL FROM WASTEWATER

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Violeta Niculescu, Nadia Paun, Marius Miricioiu)

Since 1860, phenol has been in production, with its basic use as an antiseptic. During late 19th century and thereafter the use of phenol has been further extended to the synthesis of dyes, aspirin, plastics, pharmaceuticals, petrochemical and pesticide chemical industries. In fact, by 2001, the global phenol production has reached an impressive 7.8 million tons. Among the different organic pollutants in wastewater, phenols are considered as priority pollutants since they are harmful to plants, animals and human, ...
