AN ADAPTIVE APPROACH FOR BUBBLE SIZE MEASUREMENT FROM FLOTATION FROTH IMAGES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, N. Mehrshad, M. Massinaei, F. Daneshmand)

Froth flotation is an effective process for separating valuable from gangue minerals. Studies show that the performance of froth flotation is affected by the froth structure, and has a strong relationship with visual information of the froth surface. The determination of the froth structure, therefore, plays a vital role for controlling the process. Extensive studies have shown that computer-based vision technology is a robust, non-intrusive and cost effective approach for monitoring and controlling of flotation c...

APPLICATION OF FLOTATION OF HAZARDOUS SEDIMENTS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, I. Janakova, P. Fecko, N. Mucha)

The paper deals with an evaluation of flotation application suitability in the sludge decontamination from the Cerny Prikop stream situated in the City of Ostrava (Czech Republic). Application of flotation on the given samples is highly effective and the acquired results are excellent. We used 2 conventional flotation collectors (Montanol 551, Flotakol). Flotation of organic pollutants is very effectual and more than 75 \% of hydrocarbons C10 – C40, 70 \% of PCB and 80 \% of PAH from the sediments was removed.

COLLECTION RATE CONSTANT MODELING IN A FULL- SCALE FLOTATION COLUMN

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Massinaei, R. Doostmohammadi, A. Aryafara)

In the present study collection rate constant (kc) was modeled as a function of the most significant operating variables which affect gas dispersion in a flotation column (i.e. superficial gas velocity, slurry density (solids\%) and frother dosage/type) using artificial neural network (ANN) and statistical techniques. Experiments were performed in an industrial flotation column (4 m in diameter and 12 m in height) in rougher circuit of a copper concentrator. RTD studies using a radioactive tracer have already conf...

DETERMINATION OF METAL CONTENTS IN HONEY BY INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA EMISSION SPECTROSCOPY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Obradovic, S. Mitic, S. Tosic, AL. Pavlovic, J. Ilic)

Five honey samples were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The concentrations of analytes in the digests (seventeen minerals), obtained via optimized dry decomposition of honey samples, were quantified for each honey.

EFFECT OF LEAD NITRATE ON CYANIDATION OF ANTIMONIAL REFRACTORY GOLD AND SILVER ORES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, O. Celep, I. Alp, H. Deveci)

This paper deals with the effect of the addition of lead nitrate and ultra-fine grinding on the cyanidation of an antimonial refractory gold and silver ore. The results indicated that the recovery of gold was enhanced by 10\%, but, silver extraction did not improve with adding lead nitrate or increasing its concentration. Fine grinding (e.g. down to-5$\mu$m) did not produce the desired effect on the extraction of Au and Ag.

GENERAL ASPECT OF DIFFERENT BARITE OCCURRENCES IN THE EAST OF ISTANBUL, TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Maral, D. Maral, T. A. Kepekli, A. Celenli, E. Hacioglu, M. Budakoglu, S. Sezer, S. Kilincarslan, F. Suner)

Barite occurrences east of Istanbul (NW Turkey) are compared major mineralogical and geochemical properties, and identified depositional origins. Sile barite occurrence, which is near Blacksea, north east of Istanbul, is alternated with Triassic sandstone. Petrographic observations reveal that barite grains are found out in the sand stones. Chemical analyses are conducted on eighteen samples via AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) equipment for detection of Cu, Zn, Pb, Sr, Cd and Ni concentrations. Because of a v...

INVESTIGATION OF GROUNDMASS MINERALS OF KIMBERLITE ROCKS BY X-RAY ELECTRON-PROBE MICROANALYSIS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, L. Suvorova, D. Yakovlev, S. Kostrovitsky)

The mineralogical analysis is a highly effective method of prospecting diamond-hosting rocks. The main goal of investigating kimberlites rocks, the primary source of diamonds, is to examine the mineral composition of kimberlites. The microprobe analysis is currently the principal method to define the compositions of megacryst minerals from kimberlite rocks. In addition, determination of the groundmass mineral composition is important for evaluating the diamond potential of kimberlites. This paper presents results ...

PRETREATMENT OF ANTIMONIAL REFRACTORY GOLD AND SILVER ORES FOR IMPROVED CYANIDATION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, O. Celep, I. Alp, H. Deveci)

In this study, the effect of roasting and alkaline sulphide leaching pre-treatments on gold and silver recoveries by cyanidation from an antimonial refractory ore was investigated. Alkaline sulphide leach test for decomposition of antimonial sulphides were performed using Na2S and NaOH solution as leachant. Up to 85\% of antimony was removed by suitably adjusting the molar concentration of the leachant solution over two hours of leach time. Gold recovery in cyanidation was low (≤50\%) without pretreatment, but i...

RELATING THE BIOPHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT TO HUMAN HEALTH OF RESIDENTS OF A NI-CU MINING AREA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, G.-I. E Ekosse, V. M. Ngole)

Nickel-copper (Ni-Cu) mining and smelting activities within Selebi Phikwe area, Botswana is suspected to be having negative impact on the biophysical environment; thereby influencing the health of residents of this growing urbanised settlement. This paper focuses on relating the biophysical environmental hazards emanating from mining activities to human health status of residents of the study area. Mineralogical analysis of samples of tailings dump, soils, and particulate air matter (PAM) were conducted. Concentra...

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, L. Suvorova, A. Sapoznikov)

Currently the Electron Probe X-ray Microanalysis (EPMA) is the leading method in investigating of chemical composition of new minerals, which can be detected as small accessories. The results of this method are required for registration of new minerals by the IMA Commission on New Minerals and Minerals Names. Six new minerals were found in other rocks from Baikal region by scientists of Institute of Geochemistry. These morphology, chemical composition and paragenesis were studied with Microprobe JCXA-733, Jeol Ltd...

Fine grinding involves a large number of parameters in its operation. In this study, the effect of some parameters such as initial particle size, filling volume of the ball and ball size distribution on fine grinding of calcite powders (-200, -150 and -100 $\mu$m) using a laboratory stirred ball mill was studied under wet conditions. Zirconia beads (ZrSiO4) were used as grinding media with 1.0-1.2, 2.0-2.2 and 2.8-3.0 mm. A series of batch experiments using 2 3 full factorial designs was conducted to determine opt...
