AN IN VITRO STUDY: CITRUS LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL AS AN ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT AGAINST MICROBIAL INFECTIONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Iuliana Popescu, Diana Obiștioiu, Anca Hulea, Doris Floareș, Isidora Radulov)

A genuine and urgent need is to prevent and treat bacterial diseases primarily caused by germs that have developed antibiotic resistance. These factors led to several studies focusing on alternate or supplementary antimicrobial methods. With the expectation that, unlike antibiotics, they will be effective without causing resistance, researchers are becoming increasingly interested in antimicrobial substances made from natural resources, such as plant extracts, essential oils, and peptides. The present study invest...

ELETTARIA CARDAMOMUM: CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY. AN IN VITRO STUDY

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Diana Obiștioiu, Anca Hulea, Ilinca Imbrea, Iuliana Popescu, Florin Imbrea)

Recent years have seen an increase in microbial resistance, which has led to great challenges for the medical community in terms of treating diseases and the food industry in terms of contamination and the loss of shelf life. This research aimed to evaluate the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Elettaria cardamomum against the following reference strains: Streptococcus pyogenes (ATCC 19615), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Shigella flexneri (ATCC 12022), Pseudomonas aerugi...

THUJA OCCIDENTALIS AND PLATYCLADUS ORIENTALIS ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

The rise of bacterial resistance to currently employed antibiotics is causing growing concerns for public health. The emergence of highly resistant bacterial strains results in the ineffectiveness of antibiotic treatments against many bacterial infections. As a result, there is an ongoing quest for new antimicrobial agents. This pursuit can take two main directions: one involves the design and synthesis of novel agents, while the other involves exploring natural sources to uncover previously undiscovered antimicro...

CHARACTERISATION OF THE ANTIMICROBIAL BEHAVIOUR OF ESCHERICHIA COLI AND SALMONELLA SPP. STRAINS ISOLATED FROM PIGS IN THE WESTERN PART OF ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Calin Ioan Hulea, Diana Obiștioiu, Anca Hulea, Viorel Herman)

The present study investigated the antimicrobial behaviour of E. coli and Salmonella spp. strains, isolated from pigs after their weaning age. Antimicrobial testing susceptibility by the Kirby-Bauer method allowed the identification of bacterial strains with multiple antibiotic resistance (58.02% for E. coli isolated strains and 47.27% for Salmonella isolated strains). Thus, it was noted that all 54 strains of E. coli showed resistance to trimethoprim; sulfathiazole with sulfacetamide and sulfabenzamide; sulphamet...

RESEARCH ON THE ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT OF ALLIUM SATIVUM EXTRACT ON SOME STRAINS OF SALMONELLA SPP ISOLATED FROM DOGS

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, I. Iancu, Viorel Herman, I. Nichita, Alexandru Gligor, Anca Hulea)

In recent years, the development of resistance to various antibiotics frequently used in veterinary practice has been observed. The cause seems to be the excessive use of antibiotics without doing an antibiogram. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial effect of different garlic extracts on Salmonella strains isolated from dogs. The research was carried out on a number of 19 strains of Salmonella spp. isolated from fecal samples from dogs. Salmonella spp is a bacterium with zoonotic risk. Differ...
