GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR DETERMINING THE DEPOSITIONAL CONDITIONS OF OIL SHALES IN THE ALASEHIR GRABEN IN WESTERN TURKEY

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Tamer Koralay, Demet Banu Koralay)

The Alasehir Graben hosts a thick sedimentary sequence of terrestrial clastics deposited from the Early Miocene to the present. Oil shales occur with thin- to medium-bedded sandstones, siltstones, and shales in the upper part of Alasehir Formation. This study evaluates depositional settings and paleoenvironmental conditions via inorganic geochemistry of oil shales. X-Ray Diffractometer results show the presence of quartz, clay, mica, feldspar, calcite, chlorite, pyrite, and ilmenite. Al2O3 shows strong positive co...

GEOCHEMISTRY FOR THE PLIOCENE CARBONACEOUS ROCKS FROM SOUTHEASTERN DENIZLI: PROVENANCE SIGNATURE AND TECTONIC SETTING

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Demet Banu KORALAY)

Carbonaceous rocks (bituminous shale, coal, clayey coal, coaly claystone etc.) is an aggregate of heterogeneous materials composed of organic and inorganic substances. The study area is located on the northern boundary of the Cameli-Ac?payam basin (in Southwestern Turkey), filled by thick Neogene sediments comprising local coal/carbonaceous rocks. This study presents geochemical properties of carbonaceous rocks collected from the Yesilyuva town. In this concept, their major and trace element distribution and miner...

A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION OF BULDAN COALS (DENIZLI/WESTERN TURKEY) USING PYROLYSIS AND ORGANIC PETROGRAPHIC INVESTIGATIONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Demet Banu Koralay)

Buldan region is almost 45 km from Denizli (Western Turkey) province. Terrestrial sedimentary units are deposited throughout the Denizli Basin in age from the Early Miocene to Present. The coals are located in Middle Miocene K?z?lburun Formation consisting of conglomerate, sandstone and mudstone lithologies. Coal samples were studied using standard total organic carbon (TOC) and kerogen pyrolysis analysis of the whole rock samples and organic petrographic methods. Average TOC content, S1 and S2 values of investiga...
