ASSESSMENT OF THE ABUNDANCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE EMERGENT AQUATIC VEGETATION IN THE DANUBE DELTA, ROMANIA. THE CASE STUDY OF TATARU AND UZLINA LAKES

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Irina Catianis, Gabriel Iordache, Adriana Maria Constantinescu, Ana Bianca Pavel, Oana Dobre)

This paper presents the findings of the mapping and evaluation of macrophyte vegetation from Tataru and Uzlina lakes, located within Danube Delta, Romania. Throughout time, the Danube Delta unique ecosystem has endured considerable ecological changes due to natural and anthropogenic stressors. Currently, the potential threats are those related to pollution, agriculture, land use, climate change and subsequently, the proliferation and/or the extinction of many macrophyte species. The excessive development of aquati...

MORPHOLOGY AND WATER DYNAMICS OF CHANNEL BIFURCATION IN DELTAIC ENVIRONMENT

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Florin Duțu, Laura Tiron Duţu, Irina Catianis, Gabriel Iordache)

The study presents a detailed analyse of the morpho-dynamic processes of the main two bifurcations of the Danube River within its delta, at Ceatal Izmail and Ceatal St. George. The first bifurcation of the Danube, called Ceatal Izmail; here the river divides into two distributaries: a northern one, the Chilia (Kilia), and a southern one, the Tulcea. Forking to the right at Ceatal Izmail (Mile 43), the Tulcea distributary stretches further to 17 km to the second main hydrographic knot Ceatal Sfantu Gheorghe (St. Ge...

ASSESSING DANUBE RIVERBED MORPHOLOGY AS A RESPONSE TO NATURAL AND ANTHROPOGENIC CONDITIONS USING GIS: A CASE STUDY OF THE CEATAL IZMAIL BRANCHING AREA

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Gabriel Iordache, Irina Catianis, Sorin Anghel, Ioan Cornel Pop)

This paper aims to assess the trend of river morphological evolution and changes in the Danube riverbed sector, i.e., Ceatal Izmail, using GIS techniques. The sector is located on the Danube at Mile 43, where the river branches into Chilia and Tulcea tributaries. Therefore, three monitoring topo-bathymetric profiles (2018 and 2019) were performed on Danube (Mm 43), Chilia (Km 114) and Tulcea (Mm 42.5), under circumstances of high and low water levels. On the Danube (Mm 43), an asymmetry of the valley (right bank) ...

GROUND PENETRATING RADAR SURVEY AT TWO ARCHAEOLOGICAL ROMAN SITES IN EASTERN ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Andrei Gabriel Dragoș, Sorin Anghel, Gabriel Iordache, Ioan Cornel Pop)

Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys can enhance the quantity and quality of information, when applied to archaeological prospection. The potential of the GPR method lies in its relevance to a wide range of site conditions and the complementary nature of the data in comparison with other geophysical methods. The Aegyssus archaeological site is located on the Monument Hill, in the north-eastern section of Tulcea, and was built at the end of the 4th century B.C. Its name, of celtic origin, derived from the legenda...

HYDROLOGICAL MONITORING OF WETLAND AREAS USING SAR TECHNIQUES IN DANUBE DELTA BIOSPHERE RESERVE

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Sorin Anghel, Gabriel Iordache)

The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (DDBR) covers around 580,000 hectares, where the waters of the Danube enter the Black Sea. It is the second largest and the best preserved of Europe?s deltas; its dynamic, relatively wild ecosystem supports a rich diversity of wetland habitats, numerous lakes, ponds and over 330 species of birds and 45 species of freshwater fish [1]. The region has a long history and the DDBR includes a number of Iron Age fortified sites, remnants of Greek and Roman settlements, and early Christi...
