PEDO-HYDROLOGICAL CONSTRAINTS AND SOIL DIVERSITY IN THE BANAT HIGH PLAINS (WESTERN ROMANIA): SECTORAL PATTERNS AND LAND-MANAGEMENT IMPLICATIONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Lucian NITA, Florin CRISTA, Simona NITA, Alina LATO, Ilinca IMBREA)

West Romania Banat high plains in the Pannonian Basin are low slope and wet. Block subsidence, loess, and river lake beds built a wide glacis belt cut by marshy vales. We mapped soils and limits in six plains from Vinga and the Bega Timis gulf to Gataia Tormac Moravita and Buzias Timis, 43 cadastral units, 346000 ha farm. Data follow Romanian soil taxonomy 2012 and were joined with relief from a digital elevation model, sediment maps, canal and dike maps, and climate means at Arad and Timisoara (T 10.4–10.8C; P ...

This study evaluated the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of Nepeta - faassenii (family Lamiaceae), a perennial aromatic hybrid derived from N. racemosa and N. nepetella [12]. The genus Nepeta is recognized for its essential oils rich in nepetalactones, phenolic acids, and flavonoids, which contribute to notable biological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, and insect-repellent effects [3], [9], [10], [12]. The Nepeta Vegetal Extract (NVE) was obtained through ultrasonic extraction using 60 % e...

In this work we present the particularities of three standing water NATURA 2000 habitats from southwestern section of Romania (Banat region). This study brings information about the current status of these three habitats and based on this appropriate management measures can be taken or reviewed. The studied habitats are: 3130 Oligotrophic to mesotrophic standing waters with vegetation of the Littorelletea uniflorae and/or Iso-to-Nanojuncetea, 3150 Natural eutrophic lakes with Magnopotamion or Hydrocharition and 31...

THE SPREAD OF ASCLEPIAS SYRIACA L. IN THE ROMANIAN BANAT

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-12-15, Alina Neacşu, Ilinca Imbrea, Diana Obiștioiu, Alina Laţo, G. G. Arsene)

Introduced in Europe for the first time as a medicinal plant (around the 1630) and later as an ornamental, Asclepias syriaca L. has escaped from culture and became subspontaneous. Today, this species raises serious threats of invasion in some European countries, such as Hungary, for example. In this paper, we discuss the spread of the species in the Romanian Banat, especially in the spontaneous vegetation. The first reports in the region are those from the Romanian Flora. We found this species in different habitat...

ELETTARIA CARDAMOMUM: CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY. AN IN VITRO STUDY

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-12-15, Diana Obiștioiu, Anca Hulea, Ilinca Imbrea, Iuliana Popescu, Florin Imbrea)

Recent years have seen an increase in microbial resistance, which has led to great challenges for the medical community in terms of treating diseases and the food industry in terms of contamination and the loss of shelf life. This research aimed to evaluate the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Elettaria cardamomum against the following reference strains: Streptococcus pyogenes (ATCC 19615), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Shigella flexneri (ATCC 12022), Pseudomonas aerugi...

Dioecious Cannabis sativa L. is grown for derived products that are of industrial, food and therapeutic importance. The research aims to highlight the therapeutic potential. The study's main objective is to examine the antibacterial activity of dioecious hemp extracts on two bacterial strains. The plant material comes from 4 varieties of dioecious hemp CS (Cannabis sativa L.): CS1-Armanca, CS2- Lovrin 110, CS 3- Silvana and CS 4- Teodora. The antibacterial property of the plant biological material was tested on tw...
