MODELLING OF THE ALGAL BLOOMS AND ENERGY PRODUCTION IN THE VOLGA RESERVOIRS

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Ivan Krayev, С. А. Гусейнова, María Ivanova)

The Volga is a cascade of lowland reservoirs since 1982. This allows flood prevention, river-sea navigation and hydropower generation. The creation of a cascade of hydropower plants led to the flooding of fertile floodplain lands, a decrease in water quality, and drastic algal blooms in the summer season. The alternative solution includes establishment of combined renewable energy plants containing floating solar and pumped storage plants near the existing hydropower plants. This is tentatively estimated to lower ...

MULTI-CRITERIA EVALUATION OF THE VOLGA ENERGY CASCADE

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Alexander Ivanov, Rodney Stevens, Carlos Duque Calvache, Onwusameka Ogbowuokara, Ivan Krayev)

The Volga River is essentially a cascade of reservoirs that provide hydroelectric energy. This technical solution made it possible to produce electricity for industrialization, to ensure the passage of river-sea vessels between five seas and to stop floods on the Volga River. Although often considered a green energy source, there are environmental and economic considerations that should be accounted for in a holistic and sustainable perspective, i.e. a life cycle of ca. 50 years, areal inundation by reservoir wate...

ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS AFFECTING HEALTH AND HERITAGE SITES IN LARGE HISTORIC CITIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Alexander Ivanov, A. Platov, Ivan Krayev, Д.А. Малышев)

The goal of the research is to identify the most significant groups of environmental risks for large cities with heritage sites. Along with relatively rare events threatening heritage sites such as karst, floods and landslides, a group of risks associated with fast-paced processes has been identified, with immediate hazardous effects. These are the risk of hypothermia and frostbite, the risk of heat stress, the risk of immediate toxicological effects caused by heavy traffic, the risk of traffic noise and the risk ...

MODELING ALGAE CONCENTRATION IN STRATIFIED WATER

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Alexander G. Ivanov, A. Platov, Ivan Krayev, D. Malyshev, С. А. Гусейнова)

Ascent and submersion of algae depends on their density. As a result, algae find themselves in different conditions for solar radiation and temperature. The paper represents model of algae concentration during vegetative period both in upper mixed layer and in bottom layer for three types of algae depending on density. The model is based on research of water samples from various horizons obtained in the Gorky reservoir from 2014 to 2019. Samples were examined for the presence of algae using a microscope equipped w...

WATER RISKS IN GEOPARKS OF THE NIZHNY NOVGOROD REGION

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-12-20, Andrey Lapshin, A. A. Kolomiets, А. Н. Иванов, Ivan Krayev, D. Malyshev)

Objects of geological heritage of international level are located in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This is the Puchezh-Katunki impact crater of an early Jurassic age, the Bathonian-Callovian deposits of the Jurassic system near the settlement of Prosek on the banks of the Volga and karst lakes and caves in the basin of Pyana and Tyosha rivers. A water induced risk assessment was carried out to include it in application for aspiring UNESCO Geoparks network. The assessment includes the risk of landslides, abrasion of ...
