Alzheimer?s disease, the most common age-related dementia worldwide, is characterized by two pathologies: deposition of ?-amyloid plaque and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau. To this date, several factors, such as oxidative stress, metal ions, or genetic factors are associated with Alzheimer`s diseases, but there are still some question marks regarding: (i) how the misfolding and aggregation of A? occurs and which is the aggregation mechanism; (ii) how the metal ions binds to A? and how they init...

AMYLOID-? AND ANTI-AMYLOID PEPTIDES INVOLVED IN ALZHEIMER`S DISEASE: INTERACTIONS WITH METAL IONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Laura Ion)

Alzheimer`s diseases (AD) is the most common age-related dementia, being characterized by accumulation of extracellular amyloid plaques in AD brains. The principal constituent of these plaques are fibrils which are primarily composed of amyloid-? peptides (A?), with 39-42 amino acid residues in length, which are the proteolysis products derived from the amyloid precursor peptide (APP). Several factors, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, metal ions or genetic factors are associated with AD. Even if metal ions ...
