COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF FORESTRY COMPETITIVENESS OF EUROPEAN MEMBER STATES

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Константин Колев, Maya Tsokiinova, Nevena Shuleva)

Based on literature survey and M. Porter's diamond a system of internationally comparable indicators is substantiated, which characterizes the competitiveness of forestry at national level of fourteen European union (EU) member states. The indicators are as of 2022, and are: area of wooded land per capita; growing stock per hectare; net annual increment per hectare; roundwood removals under bark per hectare; output of forestry per hectare, labour productivity, net entrepreneurial income per hectare, gross fixed ca...

EFFICIENCY OF FOREST RESOURCES IN EUROPEAN MEMBER STATES

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Константин Колев, Maya Tsoklinova, Nevena Shuleva)

The efficiency of the possessed forest resources in relation to gross value added (GVA) produced in forestry of fourteen European Union member states (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden) in 2022 is assessed by means of Data envelopment analysis (DEA), an input-oriented BCC model with variable returns to scale (VRS). On this grounds is established that in the forestry of 7 EU member states (Austria (0,89), Bulgaria (0,71), Croatia (0...

THE INFLUENCE OF INVESTMENTS AND FOREST RESOURCES ON GROSS VALUE ADDED IN FORESTRY: PANEL DATA ANALYSIS

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-12-27, Константин Колев, Nevena Shuleva, Maya Tsoklinova)

The goal of present paper is to study the influence of investments and forest resources on gross value added in forestry. To achieve this goal are used comparable data from Eurostat for the period 2015-2022 for 12 European union (EU) member states: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden. A panel regression model with fixed time effects is specified. The dependent variable is the gross value added per hectare (euro/ha) and as regressors are used...

DETECTING THE INFLUENCE OF FORESTS ON WATER RESOURCES IN BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Nevena Shuleva, Константин Колев)

Bulgarian forests are part of the national wealth and national identity. Their economic, social and ecological functions are important for the sustainable development of society and for improvement of living conditions especially in rural and mountainous regions. To a large extent these functions are irreplaceable not only in a national but also in a global aspect. In this connection in the present paper a structural-functional characterization of Bulgarian forest territories is done. Actual data on the area of fo...

MULTIDIMENSIONAL MODELING OF THE FOREST AREAS AROUND WATER SOURCES IN BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Nevena Shuleva, Neno Aleksandrov, Константин Колев, Maya Tsoklinova)

In Bulgaria, the number of water sources and facilities for drinking and domestic water supply from surface and underground water is about 7,480. They are surrounded by sanitary protection zones (SPZ). Each SPZ has 3 belts, which are organised according to an accepted methodology. With the help of a designed geographic information system, it was found that in Bulgaria forest territories that belong to SPZ around water sources and water supply facilities for drinking and domestic needs have a total area of 576,117 ...
