IMPACT OF INITIATOR PLACEMENT ON IGNITION OF THE VERTICALLY POSITIONED ELECTRICAL CABLE

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-11-20, Peter Rantuch)

The cone heater is one of the primary sources of radiant heat in the field of fire protection. It is increasingly used not only for measurements related to building materials but also for other flammable objects, that may be exposed to heat radiation during their lifetime or during a fire. Such measurements are more specific in the case of electric cables. They can be exposed to heat individually or in bundles. Their positioning may be in the horizontal or vertical direction, with the latter prevails in real-life ...

DETETMINATION OF THE HEAT GENERATION OF WOOD PELLETS DURING FLAME AND FLAMELESS COMBUSTION

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Igor Wachter, Doc. Jozef Martinka, Peter Rantuch, Jozef Horvath, Karol Balog)

The aim of this paper is to thermo-analytically study the process of heat generation during flame and flameless combustion of lignocellulos pellets dust made from various types of raw materials. The heat release rate of the test samples was measured by a cone calorimeter. Different heat fluxes (30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 kW.m-2) were used to determine the behaviour of three different types of lignocellulose pellets dust under a thermal load. The mass loss and the time to ignition was continuously monitored during each ...

HEAT RELEASE RATE OF VEGETABLE OILS DURING COMBUSTION

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Peter Rantuch, Igor Wachter, Robert Esek)

This paper deals with the burning of edible vegetable oils. Their primary use is in the field of food preparation, but they are increasingly being used as a basic raw material for biodiesel production. Four types of oils were used for the measurements: canola, sunflower, olive and pistachio. All samples were tested on a cone calorimeter using an initiator source at an external heat flux with a density of 35 kW.m-2. Time to initiation and termination of burning, as well as parameters characterizing the released hea...

KEY PROPERTIES OF COMBUSTION PRODUCTS AND THEIR APPLICATION IN FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Jozef Martinka, Igor Wachter, Peter Rantuch, Karol Balog)

The presented paper covers the research of combustion products of selected natural and synthetic polymers and their key properties in terms of toxic effects on living organisms and the visibility in the area affected by fire. The samples of silver birch (Betula verrucosa Ehrh.), common oak (Quercus robur L.), Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), polyethylene and polypropylene were investigated. The examined materials were compared in the regard to their toxicity of the combustion products based on the carbon m...
