ECO-FRIENDLY FUELS FROM BLACK LIQUOR WASTE THROUGH BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL VALORIZATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Florian Marin, Oana Maria Tanislav, Simona Oancea, Marius Constantinescu, Anca Maria Zaharioiu)

Lately, the waste black liquor generated through paper manufacturing, has been increased in amounts, which represents a threat to the environment and human health. On the other hand, there is a great concern related to the energy crisis occurring all over the world. The use of fossil fuels through the combustion process generates greenhouse gas emissions being harmful to the environment. For this reason, the principle of the circular economy must be taken into account, ``nothing is lost, everything is transformed'...

COMPARATIVE STUDY ON PHENOLICS, FLAVONOIDS, TANNINS AND ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES OF CALENDULA OFFICINALIS EXTRACTS OBTAINED BY DIFFERENT EXTRACTION TECHNIQUES

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Lucia‐Florina Popovici, Simona Oancea)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of several extraction methods on the content of bioactive compounds of polyphenolic structure and antioxidant properties of petals from marigold flowers (Calendula officinalis). Ethanolic extracts prepared using maceration, turbo-extraction and bead-beating techniques were investigated for total phenolics, flavonoids and tannins, and antioxidant activities as measured by FRAP and DPPH assays, as well. The results showed that the highest phenolic content (1316.367...

RECYCLING OF BLACK LIQUOR WASTE FROM PULP FACTORIES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE FUELS

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Florian Marin, Oana Romina Botoran, Simona Oancea, Marius Constantinescu, Anca-Maria Zaharioiu)

The lignocellulosic biomass is produced worldwide in large quantities, which may contribute to environmental changes, global warming, wildfires, ocean and sea level rise. Recent research demonstrated efficacy of the thermal reconversion of black liquor, which represents a waste resulted from wood Kraft pulping, into gaseous (syngas), liquid (bio-oil) and solid (bio-char) final products through the pyrolysis process. This review describes the physical chemical and energy features of black liquor required for its va...

RADIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS BY GROSS ALPHA/ BETA, 137Cs AND 90Sr ACTIVITIES OF MILK SAMPLES FROM SIBIU AND ALBA COUNTY, ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Cecilia Ionela Taban, Ioan Tăuşan, Simona Oancea)

The evaluation of radioactivity levels was performed on milk samples collected biannually for a period of 10 years (2012-2021) from two Central Romanian counties, Sibiu and Alba. The radioactivity concentrations in milk samples originated from Sibiu varied from 0.028-0.001 Bq/L to 0.347-0.017 Bq/L, from 24.017-0.977 Bq/L to 65.403-6.281 Bq/L, from 0.090-0.010 Bq/L to 0.110-0.010 Bq/L, from 0.085 to 0.110 Bq/L, for gross alpha, gross beta, 137Cs and 90Sr, respectively. The radioactivity concentrations in milk sampl...

THE INFLUENCE OF UV-C RADIATION ON ANTHOCYANINS RECOVERY FROM HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA FLOWER AND RIBES NIGRUM FRUIT EXTRACTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Madalina Bibicu, Mirabela Perju, Horea Olosutean, Simona Oancea)

Fruits and flower edible petals rich in polyphenolic compounds, in particular anthocyanins are known for their pharmacological properties. In order to recover high amounts of such biomolecules from their matrix, various extraction conditions should be conducted. In the present paper, flower petals of Hibiscus sabdariffa and fruits of Ribes nigrum were irradiated with UV-C light for different times (10 and 20 minutes) and at different distances (20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 cm) with the objective to study its effect on pl...
