INVESTIGATION OF CASSITERITES AND THEIR COLUMBITE-TANTALITE INCLUSIONS IN RARE METAL PEGMATITES OF THE EAST SAYAN BELT BY X-RAY ELECTRON PROBE MICROANALYSIS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Belozerova, Olga, Makagon, Vladimir)

The X-ray electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) technique is developed for cassiterites and minerals of Ta and Nb. The phase and chemical composition of rare metal pegmatite cassiterites of the East Sayan Belt and their inclusions of Ta and Nb minerals were studied using the EPMA technique. The results of cassiterite investigations showed, that niobium and tantalum are contained both in isomorphous form, substituting the tin in the matrix of mineral and as mineral inclusions of columbitetantalites. The distribution ...

The mineralogical analysis is a highly effective method of prospecting diamond-hosting rocks. The main goal of investigating kimberlites rocks, the primary source of diamonds, is to examine the mineral composition of kimberlites. The microprobe analysis is currently the principal method to define the compositions of megacryst minerals from kimberlite rocks. In addition, determination of the groundmass mineral composition is important for evaluating the diamond potential of kimberlites. This paper presents results ...

THE MOON-EARTH INTERACTION`S SHARE INTO THE THERMAL BALANCE OF THE EARTH

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Lomidze, Ilia, Lomidze, Tamar)

Starting from the recently proposed hypothesis [1] on the Moon formation from the ejection of terrestrial mantle material in a heat-propelled jet, triggered by a run-away natural georeactor at Earth’s core-mantle boundary, we estimate the energy losses in the Earth-Moon system, develop dynamics of this process and compare produced value of the heat with known estimations for heat produced by heavy radionuclides fusion in the Earth body. We conclude that the values of heat produced in these two processes are compar...

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Karamanov, Alexander)

The possibility to obtain a low cost petrurgical material by direct sintering of alkaline basaltic tuffs is demonstrated. The parent rock was milled for 10-15 min and the resulting powder was pressed at 100 MPa. The sintering and the phase formation in air and inert atmospheres were studied by dilatometry and DTA, respectively. The phase composition of obtained samples was evaluated by XRD whereas the stricture was highlighted in details by SEM. Some mechanical and thermal properties of the new materials were meas...
