ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC VIEWS REGARDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF PLASTIC POLLUTION IN CLUJ COUNTY, ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Oana-Cristina Modoi, Marina D. Dascăl, Carmen Roba, Ramona Bălc)

Plastic in the environment poses significant problems for the present, as well as for future generations. The consequences and the exposure of living organisms to plastic pollution are not yet fully understand. The risks to health, environment and climate, due to the ubiquity and persistence of plastic are of great interest. The current study analyzes the perception of the Romanians regarding plastic pollution, in order to determine any pro-recycling behaviour of the local people and to recommend specific actions ...

ANALYSIS OF THE NEAR INFRARED (NIR) SPECTROSCOPY METHOD USED FOR TEXTILE WASTE SORTING

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Oana-Cristina Modoi, Iulia Ajtai, Carmen Roba, A. Mereuta)

Textile production is considered one of the most polluting industries with a high impact on the environment, both in terms of increased resource consumption and textile waste generation. Moreover, in the past years, the textile industry registered a significant growth, which leads to large amounts of textile waste that need to be controlled and managed. This problem highlighted the need for sustainable methods and improved technologies for textile recycling, and brings into focus the importance of circular economy...

ECO-FRIENDLY RECOVERY OF COPPER FROM WASTEWATER BY CEMENTATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Carmen Roba)

Cementation is one of the most effective, eco-friendly and economically advantageous techniques for removal of valuable and / or toxic metals from industrial wastewaters. Copper is among the most prevalent and valuable metal used in industry. The present study investigates an eco-friendly recovery method for the copper ions present in synthetic wastewater, by cementation, using scrap iron and no energy consumption. It was evaluated the impact on copper cementation yield, caused by the fallowing parameters: (a) ini...

ASSESSMENT OF HEAVY METALS LEACHING FROM DIFFERENT TYPES OF WASTE MIXED WITH MOLASSES

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Oana-Cristina Modoi, Nicolae Ajtai, Carmen Roba, Camelia Ciobotariu, Tania Mihaiescu)

In the present study it was evaluated the capacity of molasses for removing seven metals (Fe, Zn, Cu, Cd, Cr, Pb, and Ni) from three types of waste: galvanic sludge (pH = 7.1 пїЅ 7.8), mineral residue from a lead metallurgical plant (pH = 5.0 пїЅ 5.8) from Baia Mare (Romania), and tailing pond residue from Aurul - Baia Mare (pH = 2.1 пїЅ 3.0). Several leaching tests were conducted in the laboratory in order to investigate the influence of molasses concentrations (0 %, 1%, 5%, 10%) on heavy metal leaching. It was o...

EFFECTS OF FORMER MINING ACTIVITIES ON SURFACE WATER. CASE STUDY: VALEA VINULUI MINE - ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Carmen Roba, Ioana Pistea, Simina Bindiu, Cristina Rosu)

The main objectives of the present study were: (1) to evaluate the impact of acid drainage, from the former Valea Vinului mine on the quality of Valea B?ilor creek and (2) to propose a treating method for the acid mine waters generated by the investigated mine. The waste waters sampled from the former Valea Vinului mine proved to be highly acidic having a pH between 3.1 and 5.2. The monthly fluctuation showed that during March 2016 and April 2016/2017 the waste waters were highly acidic. The acidic mine waters had...

GREEN SYNTHESES OF ANDERSON-EVANS POLYANIONS {XMo6O24} IN ONE-POT PROCEDURE

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Ioana Cristina Pistea, Carmen Roba, Cristina Rosu)

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are discrete, anionic metal-oxygen clusters of early d bloc metal ions in high oxidation status (e.g. MoVI, WVI) with a very large structural and compositional variety, leading to interest in many different areas (catalysts in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of organic compounds or biochemical reactions, activity in enzymatic redox processes, as antitumoral, antibacterial and antiviral treatments etc). An important subclass of POMs is the {XMo6O24} structure type, Anderson...
