ABOUT THE APPLICABILITY OF ECOLOGICAL FLOW METHODOLOGY FOR PILOT DRAINAGE AREAS IN DANUBE RIVER BASIN DIRECTORATE IN BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Elena Bojilova, Borislav Vuchkov, Maya Rankova, Plamen Angelov, Radoslava Ivanova)

The research uses monthly water flow in river watersheds within Danube-s river basin - Ogosta, Iskar, Yantra and Rusenski Lom rivers, as pilot basins. The water flow indicators describe river flow regime and hydrological streamflow characteristics. Our article describes the determination of environmental flow limits on surface water abstractions in Bulgaria. Monthly river flow is characterized by annual variability due to climate factors and anthropogenic impacts. Furthermore information from hydrometric stations ...

COMPARISON OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE PROPOSED METHODOLOGY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RUNOFF WITH THOSE CALCULATED UNDER THE CURRENT REGULATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Maya Rankova, Elena Bojilova, Plamen Angelov, Borislav Vuchkov, Р. А. Иванова)

In climate change, drought, and water scarcity, the natural functioning of river systems largely depends on the proper distribution of water resources. Accurate determination of hydrological characteristics is essential for the sustainable management of water resources and provides information on the status and potential of water systems. Water management must be implemented in such a way as to meet the needs of man and the economy. At the same time, measures are taken to protect the quantitative characteristics o...

MAXIMUM FLOWS OF RIVERS IN THE CENTRAL DANUBE PLAIN

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Plamen Ninov, Elena Bojilova)

The present material demonstrates appliance of regional studies on the area of Central Danube Plain in Bulgaria for determination the characteristic maximum flows at nonobserved river sections with focusing on for flood risk areas. River flow is characterized by annual variability in maximum runoff caused by climatic factors and anthropogenic impacts. For this reason, in most cases, information from hydrometric stations cannot be used directly. One of the main tasks of hydrological research is the transfer of info...

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF YANTRA RIVER FLOW

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Elena Bojilova)

The study is focused on statistical analysis of river discharges. The registered river flow regime and hydrological characteristics of Yantra River are investigated. Yantra watershed is situated in North Bulgaria and belongs to Danube river basin Directorate. The current study is focused on the low flows. Thirteen hydrometrics stations located in the watershed are available for the investigation. Data used are from monitoring network of the National institute of meteorology and hydrology, Bulgaria. The flow durati...

TECHNOLOGICAL APPROACH FOR WATER RESOURCES DETERMINATION IN ISKAR RIVER WATER BODIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Plamen Ninov, Elena Bojilova)

The main goal of presented study is a demonstration of technological approach to determine the water resources of surface water bodies, using a sparse hydrological monitoring network not covering many of them. Resource of the water body is a flow formed in the catchment area above the studied one including the additional inflow in the frame of the same water body. Practically the flow is changing in each sector of the water body but average annual resources are specified at the final section. The water resources f...

HIGH FLOWS DETERMINATION AT UNGAUGED RIVER STRETCHES USING REGIONALIZATION APPROACH (EXAMPLE MESTA WATERSHED)

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Plamen Ninov, Elena Bojilova)

The lack of direct measurements (the most accurate way to determine characteristic high flows) has posed the need to look for other hydrological methods that are sufficiently reliable. The regionalization is an indirect hydrological approach for specific high flow determination used at ungauged river stretches. Usually the hydro-technical constructions or other important economic activities connected to the water use are the main reason necessitating the study of characteristic high water on rivers. For the purpos...

STOCHASTIC MODELING OF OSAM RIVER, BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Elena Bojilova, Plamen Ninov, Irena Ilcheva, Anna Yordanova)

Modeling is important for river system analysis and management. The aim of the research is to apply disaggregation models to data with recovered natural river flow of Osam River located in North Bulgaria. As a result river discharge synthetic sequences are generated on monthly and seasonal discretization. We want to test applicability of the models for specific climatic, hydrological and orographic conditions in Bulgaria. Disaggregation models are from the family of stochastic models. Disaggregation models could b...

APPLICABILITY OF RAINFALL-RUNOFF MODELS TO THE CONDTIONS OF RIVER RUNOFF IN BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Elena Bojilova)

Applicability of rainfall-runoff models to the river conditions in temperate climate is tested. Different deterministic models were examined with distributed and semi-distributed parameters. Finally, two models have been selected from US Army Corps of Engineers - Hydrologic Engineering Centre: HEC-GeoHydrological Modeling System (HEC-GeoHMS) and HEC-Hydrological Modeling System (HEC-HMS). Hydrological study for selected Bulgarian watershed is presented. The populated and urbanized area of Yantra River basin is con...
