The aim of this work is the optimization of sinter-crystallization regime of a glassceramic from a municipal solid waste incineratior (MSWI) bottom ash. The parent waste was melted at 1400oC, milled below 75 $\mu$m and the obtained glass powders were pressed at 100 MPa. The optimal temperature for sinter-crystallization was estimated by DTA, dilatometry and XRD. Subsequently, the degrees of sintering, obtained at different heating rates (between 2 and 40oC/min) and 1 h step at 950oC were estimated by the linear sh...

VALUE AT RISK IN A VOLATILE CONTEXT OF NATURAL DISASTER RISK

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Mondlane, Mr Avelino)

For many years, natural disasters were perceived as unavoidable strokes of misfortune brought about by nature’s unpredictable forces. Taking into consideration the magnitude of the tsunami in Asia in 2004, the heavy floods in Mozambique in 2000, and Hurricane Mitch in Central America in 1998, we can see that developing countries are the most victims of such events, mostly due to their limited capacities and resources to mitigate disasters. On another hand is quite visible the efforts that are put on places both to...

Extremely fast and dynamic changes in space require efficient and appropriate recordkeeping of these. Records of spatial data without a time component give insight into data at a current moment and in their current condition in the field or records. By adding the time component (4th dimension) to spatial data, an additional function of spatial database is enabled. Spatial database becomes a spatio-temporal database and it is possible to send queries to the base which result in a set of data at a certain time momen...

Bond-Order Conservation-Morse Potential (BOC-MP) method is used in order to carry out the calculation. One of the best catalysts for methanol synthesis in catalytic reduction of CO2 with H2O is Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 whose surface is supported by with some amount of Pd or Ga. Reduction of CO2 with H2O on Cu will result in methanol formation; while on Ni will lead to methane formation. In the mechanism of methanol synthesis from CO2+ H2O on Cu, the formate (HCOO) hydrogenation step is ratedetermining step and in the mechanis...

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF BEGA CANAL – ROMANIA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, C. Badaluta-Minda)

Canal Bega traverses Romania (49 km) and Serbia (75 km) discharge through Tisa in the Danube River. Between 1760 and 1958 functioned as a waterway. After 2000, one proposed a strategy for the sustainable development of the canal: the canal rehabilitees, the source of the water supply, the emissary for the sewage, the irrigations, producing by the electric power, tourism and recreation. This paperwork is made an analysis of the sustainable development of the canal by introducing a computation scheme and realizing a...

SINTERING OF POWDERS FROM ALKALINE BASALTIC TUFFS IN AIR AND INERT ATMOSPHERES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Karamanov, Alexander)

The possibility to obtain a low cost petrurgical material by direct sintering of alkaline basaltic tuffs is demonstrated. The parent rock was milled for 10-15 min and the resulting powder was pressed at 100 MPa. The sintering and the phase formation in air and inert atmospheres were studied by dilatometry and DTA, respectively. The phase composition of obtained samples was evaluated by XRD whereas the stricture was highlighted in details by SEM. Some mechanical and thermal properties of the new materials were meas...

WET FINE GRINDING IN A LABORATORY STIRRED BALL MILL

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, O. Y. Toraman, D. Katircioglu)

Fine grinding involves a large number of parameters in its operation. In this study, the effect of some parameters such as initial particle size, filling volume of the ball and ball size distribution on fine grinding of calcite powders (-200, -150 and -100 $\mu$m) using a laboratory stirred ball mill was studied under wet conditions. Zirconia beads (ZrSiO4) were used as grinding media with 1.0-1.2, 2.0-2.2 and 2.8-3.0 mm. A series of batch experiments using 2 3 full factorial designs was conducted to determine opt...

THE USE OF LAND AND POSSIBILITIES OF REDUCING THE RISKS CAUSED BY ENVIRONMENTAL BURDENS FROM MINING ACTIVITY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Augustínova, Edita, Daubner, Mgr Pavol, Ižová, Katarína)

The environmental burdens, representing mainly the objects after the end of mining activity, heaps and setting pits, old landfills and areas of industrial companies, belong to most serious environmental problems in Slovakia today. The disposal of old environmental burdens is usually solved at the regional level, but some activities regarding the disposal are coordinated from the central level. The article deals primarily with issue of old environmental burdens from mining activity, which is marked by higher level ...

MONITORING OF MOVEMENTS AND DEFORMATION ANALYSIS ON A PROTECTED CULTURAL MONUMENT

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Majer, V. Cetl, Z. Kapovic)

The Act on protection and conservation of cultural goods has been in force in the Republic of Croatia since 1999. It defines types of cultural goods and measures for their protection and conservation. The main authority for protection and conservation of cultural goods is the Ministry of Culture. This paper will describe geodetic works on saving a protected cultural monument. Results of the analysis of movement measurements over a longer time period will give insight into the real conditions and enable experts to ...

THE DEVELOPMENT OF GEOINFORMATICS BASED FRAMEWORK TO QUANTIFY GULLY EROSION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, F. Sattar, R.J.WASSON, D. Pearson, G. Boggs, W. Ahmad, M. Nawaz)

In this study a methodological framework is presented using tools and techniques of geoinformatics to quantify gully erosion. The study was conducted in the Fergusson catchment; a sub-catchment of the Daly river, Northern Australia. Various airborne and field based reconnaissance surveys have shown that the catchment in places is severely affected by gully erosion producing large amounts of sediment. The framework applied comprised of Cartosat-1 (2.5 m resolution) stereo imagery 2008, topographic maps 1:20,000, 1 ...

DROUGHT AND ITS PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS ON PLANTS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. Kahraman, M. Onder)

Drought is a stress factor that cause of limitation life activities and effects the vegetal production. Plants are the most important source that feeding necessity of the human population who increase rapidly. Drought stress, heat stress and heat shock, low heat and freezing, salinity and oxygen deficiency are the main stress factors that lead to plant growing. Because of these stress types, the biological mass and yield of plant usually decreases under of genetic potential at the end of growing season. Drought is...

Tunnel ’’St. Ilija’’ is on the road that connects the Makarska Riviera and a new highway through the mountain range Biokovo (Figure 1). With a length of 4250 m, it is currently fourth road tunnel in Croatia, but also the tunnel with greatest overburden of 1300 m. According to the available information this is a road tunnel with the biggest limestone overburden in Europe, and as such it represented a real challenge for all who participated in its construction. This article describes the geodetic works that are unde...
