River bank erosion is a major problem in Ba ngladesh, which is known as the вЂland of rivers’, and suffers from major floods frequently. Due to braided river and alluvial soil type, river bank erosion is quite common in Bangladesh. The country spends millions of dollars every year to control river bank eros ion, which appears to be inadequate. This paper reviews river bank erosion problem in Bangladesh in general and in particular, evaluates the performance of a new technique and identifies avenues for further ...

The Moravica River is one of the most signifi cant right tributaries of the South Morava River. Its total length is 43 km and basin area 640 km 2. The municipal center of Aleksinac with its urban, commercial, industrial and cultural areas is situated close to the Moravica river estuary in to South Morava river. Due to position of the settlement and the natural river channel conditions, significant damages occurred in the past. Flood flows were endangering the inhabited part of Aleksinac, residential and public str...

The modern approach of the water removal works, in sustainable water management conditions, assumes the use of information technology. A series of new methods developed in the frame of computer aided design field have as results the increase of the quality in research and design activitie s by enlarging and studying throughly the scientific investigation. Th e specialized software programs allow to choose and check all the hypothesis assumed, to simulate th e processes and see in a dynamic way the answers to the c...

Ground water, according to higher reliance coefficient and less fluctuations, has been used for many years. Precipitation is a major supplier of underground water resources and aquifers. So any changes in rainfall amount fluctuate underground water table depth. Occurrence of drought is the most important reason for the decrease of water table. To analyze the role of drought on underground water in Shahrekord plain rainfall and water table level were used during 1984-2008 period. The resualts shows a strong correla...

The effect of biodiversity on ecosystem func tion is complex and requires understanding of all interacting systems, such as hydr ology, geology and above ground plant diversity of the study area. In this study hydrogeoch emical modeling using PHREEQC was used to investigate the effect external fact ors (nearby river Saale and an underground channel) on the groundwater chemistry of a large grassland diversity experiment (Jena experiment). Groundwater chemical analys is was performed for river Saale and groundwater ...

There are many problems related to pipe network rehabilitation, the main one being how to provide an increase in the hydraulic capacity of a system. Most of the Slovak irrigation pipe networks are branched, which is case elsewhere. A possible approach to increasing the hydraulic capacity of such system s is to convert them to looped networks (thereby providing alternative pathways) and increase their hydraulic capacity with minimum capital investment. In this work authors deal with application of simulation and op...

This paperwork makes an assessment of risk failure in defense works against flood located along and perpendicular on rivers , including natural riparian wetlands. Highlighting these areas allow us to ma ke complex studies about the different possibilities of flood mitigation, considering the surfaces and lowering the flood risk. Explanations about the “hazard - risk” scheme are made, with flood analyses in many case studies to propose a computation mode l for risk and management assessment accordingly with the...

The coastal area of the Black Sea of Georgia (Kolkheti Lowland) with its recreational, resort, transport and industrial functions is a very important region in the country. A coastline is formed under the interaction of two environments, the land and the sea with its stability much dependent on the volume and grain size of the coas t-forming material drifted to the coastline by the rivers of the Black Sea basin. 90% of the coastal formations of Georgia belong to an accumulativ e type with their genesis and filled ...

In the article is shown the approach to a research on hydropower resources in Western Siberia. The hydropower potential estimates are ba sed on the following factors: water content of rivers, river slopes and flow velocities. Identified are the portions of rivers with largest energ Сѓ capacity and the possibility to use hydro potential. A measure of hydrological tension was cal culated, which takes in to account the quantitative characteristics of following factors: low water, ice effect s, high water, sediments r...

This paper addresses the problem of defining appropriate characteristic which leads to homogeneous regions identifi cation, required for application of multiple nonlinear regression methodology for interpolation of hydrologic data from gauged to ungauged basins. The underlying methodology of mu ltiple nonlinear regression is based on theory of standardization and normalization of correla tion. In order to obtain synthetic runoff series at ungauged basins, one of the key steps is estimation of spatial correlation f...

The paper present the LIFE09 ENV/RO/0 00612 - CLEANWATER project, which foresees the development of an integrated approach for the management of nitrogen pollution, within the river catchments, with emphasis on modelling tools for delimiting the nutrients vulnerable zones, as well as for analyzing the proper measures from the environmental and economical point of view. The Barlad River Basin (surface of 7220 km 2, mean altitude 211 m) represents 17% of the surface of Siret river basin, which is the biggest Romania...

The metallogenic district of Linares-La Carolina (JaГ©n, Spain) consists of dyke mineralizations mainly of galena, accompanied by blende, chalcopyrite and barite. It is located in the head water catchment of the Guadalquivir River, the Andalusian main river, in the sub-basins of the rivers Guadiel and Grande. Associated to these abandoned mines, relatively extensive areas occupied by spoil heaps and tailing impoundments exist and constitute potential sources of water pollution by metals and semimetals. In addition...

Dojran Lake is the smallest natural lake in Macedonia, but is very important water resource for population in the region. Main economy in the region is tourism and fishery. Dojran Lake with its hydrological basin is a closed hydrological system with natural inflow of water to th e lake, but no natural outflow. Recharge of the lake is from direct surface and underground inflow. In the period 1988-2000, the water level in the lake continuously was declining. Water level declination caused ecological catastrophe for ...

Daily precipitation data measured in 38 meteorological stations during all months of the year in the period (1960 – 2009) are sorted looking for consecutive days with precipitation. The used 38 points are approximately uniformly located on the territory of the country (19 in North Bulgaria and 19 in South Bulgaria) and represent in fact the basic (synoptic) stations in the meteorologi cal network of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. Fifteen cases of extreme number of consecutive days with prec...

The aim of paper is information about a complex model for computation a surface runoff as an ArcGIS geoprocessing tool. Th e formulated LOREP model represents an application for the identification and loca lization of areas with low flood storage capability. The procedure of computation of te rritorial specific surface runoff is based on a combination of specific functions in LOREP as hydrological equations of the runoff curve number method and spatially distributed unit hydrographs. Model involves a transformatio...

In this paper, we want to check the quality of the drinking water in Kochani (in 2008). Our goal is to determine its chemical su itability. During one year (2008), we have analyzed 48 samples of crude water taken from springs, 44 samples of water taken right before its entering into the factory, 29 samp les of water taken right after its exiting of the factory and 262 samples taken from the water supply network in 5 randomly chosen places.

Leakages from underground storage tanks and accidental spills have led to contamination of soils and groundwater with organic solvents. Bio-monitoring (phyto- monitoring) uses plant tissue concentrations of organic pollutants in deep-rooted species of trees for low-cost assessment of the groundwater concentrations. Disadvantages of this approach include the limite d number of said tree species in the contaminated area, and the limited number of core samples that can be taken from a single tree before it dies. A so...
