NDVI-BASED SPATIOTEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF THE GREEN SPACE IN TBILISI, GEORGIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Mariam Tsitsagi, Zaza Gulashvili, Nino Kharebava)

Green space is an integral part of human life. Many aspects of the population's activity and well-being are associated with this process. Green space is equally important for both rural and urban settlements. Tbilisi, Georgia, is a city where the loss of green space has recently intensified due to excessive urban sprawl. However, this growth is not well planned in most cases. Accordingly, analysis of green space dynamics is crucial for strategic planning in Tbilisi. However, there is a lack of similar data for Tbi...

DROUGHT INDICES AND VIS-BASED CANOPY STATUS OF VINEYARDS

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Mariam Tsitsagi, Ana Palavandishvili, Zaza Gulashvili)

The study aims to evaluate how droughts impact irrigated and non-irrigated vineyards by analysing the relationship between short-term drought and vegetation indices to identify areas irrigated from unofficial sources. The re-search area includes vineyards in Telavi municipality (eastern Georgia). RStudio was used to calculate SPI and SPEI (1- month and 3-month timescales) and EDI (daily) to measure the severity of the meteorological drought. The 27-year (1993-2020) data from a weather station in the study area inc...

POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF WATER RESERVOIRS

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Lia Matchavariani, Giorgi Metreveli, Zaza Gulashvili)

The main purpose of the research was to create a comprehensive methodology to assess, predict and prevent the consequences of the negative impact of water-reservoirs on the environment, provide the safety of population and infrastructure; to find a way allowing jointly realize the interests of hydropower and coast protection. To achieve this goal, the following methods were used: full-scale experiment, field-expedition surveys on operating reservoirs, informational analysis, mathematical methods of least squares, ...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NORMALISED DIFFERENCE VEGETATION INDEX, PRECIPITATION AND DROUGHT INDICES (CASE OF KAKHETI, GEORGIA)

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Mariam Tsitsagi, Zaza Gulashvili, Nana Bolashvili, Marika Tatishvili, Nikoloz Suknidze)

The link between precipitation, drought indices, and NDVI is discussed in this paper. The data were processed on the example of the extreme eastern region of GeorgiaKakheti for the period 2016-2020. The study area has landscapes of natural (mixed and deciduous forests) and agriculture (vineyards, orchards, cereals, and vegetables). The NDVI was generated using Sentinel 2 images with a 10 m pixel resolution, and the average monthly NDVI was derived using Arc map 10.8. Drought indices (SPI and SPEI) were calculated ...

ROLE OF WATER RESERVOIRS IN THE SEASHORE DYNAMICS

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Lia Matchavariani, Giorgi Metreveli, Zaza Gulashvili)

Construction of water-reservoirs across the rivers flowing into the sea often much complicates the coast protection problems. The reason is deficit of filling sediment on the coast-protecting beaches, which settle under the water. Consequently, two problems arise: efficiency of water-reservoir decreases and coastlines start to degrade what eventually ends with coast washing away and disaster. Main goal of is to develop the method of efficient solution of water-reservoir and coastal problems allowing maintaining th...

ESTIMATION OF CLIMATIC BACKGROUND AND ITS REGIONAL PARAMETERS

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Lia Matchavariani, Giorgi Metreveli, Zaza Gulashvili)

The current global climate variability is leading to significant changes in meteorological and oceanographic elements. A climatic background is formed, under the direct influence of which the reservoir affects the climate. The aim of the study is to create a method that can assess the combined impact of the main climate elements for a specific time interval and region. The following parameters of hydro- and meteorological elements are selected as the characteristics of such background: arithmetic mean and correspo...

IRRIGATION AND WATER SUPPLY RECOMMENDATION SCHEME IN RIONI RIVER BASIN

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Zaza Gulashvili)

Nearly 20 years have passed since the European Community implemented the European Directives on water management. Its main directions are the achievement of good water quality and the implementation of water management principles. In Georgia, this process has been underway already for 3 years. The country's territory is divided into 6 basin areas. One of them is the Rioni River basin, whose area is 13,000 km2 with up to 700 rivers. In addition, there are reservoirs and a system of irrigation canals. In the downstr...
