(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Marián Marschalko)

This publication presents th e assessment studies of two important characteristics, limiting the utilization of the geological envi ronment for various pu rposes, especially construction. The first is the character of the pre-quaternary bedrock, other is the rock workability. Character of the pre-quaternar y bedrock and its depth is important primarily for the complex foundation engineering. They carry the greater load caused by the weight of the structure itself. Therefore, it is often necessary to carry the weig...

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Nurcihan Ceryan)

The purpose of this study is to present an application of the Static and Dynamic Rock Durability Indicators in order to estimate durability and weathered state of rock material used in the engineering structure. Durability of rocks can be defined as the rock’s ability to resist degradation during its working life. No one engineering test can be used as an absolute predictor of performance of building stone in service. Therefore a variety of approaches have been developed to estimat e of the durability of buildin...

Hydrogeological features of the quaternary sediments lies in different assumption for the emergence of freatic accumulations of groundwater and the ability to power or, conversely, to some extent seal underlying aquifers. Effect of the opencast mining on activities of quaternary sediments is significant and consists primarily in a drainage effect. In places, where the overburden works crossed saturated parts of the quaternary cover, there is a sudden drainage of aquifers. This water vents are regularly cause unres...

COMPARISON OF EXPERIMENTAL ARCHING PHENOMENA RESULTS OF SANDY SOIL WITH LIMIT EQUILIBRIUM METHOD

The ratio of observed vertical stress to its theoretical value in a soil mass which has settlement potential could be defined as arching ratio. This phenomenon could be observed in some projects, such as earth-fill dams, tunnels, and piles. Arching in earthfill dams may results in hydraulic fracture due to increase of pore water pressure, is the most important result of arching. Hydraulic fracture causes internal cracking of clay core which in turn results in more water seepage. To evaluate the arching effect, an ...
