Mineralogical composition of mining wastes deposited in voluminous tailing impoundments around the world is the key factor that controls retention and release of pollutants. Here we report geochemical and mineralogical investigation of one tailing impoundment from Slovakia. Ore deposit RudЕ€any was exploited from the end of 19th century and at 1963 the ore started to be extracted by flotation process (barite, siderite and sulfides). Waste after flotation was deposited into one tailing impoundment, which carries ap...

A NOVEL DESIGN APPROACH FOR GEOTEXTILES USED IN SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SITES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, S. S. Ugur, S. Sener, M. Karaboyaci)

Geotextiles are used commonly in domestic solid waste disposal sites as a protector filter and separator. Because, sand and silt particles included in waste leachate can fill space of gravels which are using as drainage layers. Therefore, the space of the drainage layer is bunged up with particles and it is decompose. This case is not wanted so the usage of the geotextiles has quite importance in waste disposal sites. In general, geotextile lies between waste and drainage layers and it is used to filtration. In or...

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, G. L. Mihalca, O. Tita, M. Tita, A. Mihalca)

Significant efforts should be devoted to reducing waste outputs from aquaculture operations in order to lower the environmental impacts of aquaculture in many parts of the world. Since most aquaculture wastes are ultimately from dietary origin, reduction of waste outputs should first be through improvements of diet formulation and feeding strategies. The first step in the production of feeds producing less solid waste is to eliminate poorly digestible ingredients (such as whole grain or grain byproducts used as bi...

A SHOCK-WAVE ENERGY ABSORBER: THE DEVICE AND MATHEMATICAL MODEL

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, I. Lomidze, N. Chikhradze, E. Mataradze, T. Krauthammer)

We propose a device which produces a high density cloud of spray that is consisted mostly of water micro droplets. The cloud automatically occurs when an electromagnetic pulse or/and shock wave from a close explosion matches the device. The ratio of absorbed energy of the dangerous shock wave depends on the density of the cloud and on its spreading speed as well as on the size and the mass of micro droplets. We have developed a mathematical model of physical processes in the Absorber. Numerical simulations show sa...

CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WASTE RECYCLING CENTRES AND THE OPTIMAL SIZE DETERMINATION OF THEIR INTEREST AREA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, I. Hyben, M. Spisakova)

An important element in the process of construction and demolition waste (CDW) recovery is the costs, which is necessary to incur in the recycling. The transportation costs create a significant part in total costs of recycling company. This is the main reason, why is important to deal with the distribution system of waste recycling, as well. We are able to define the model of CDW recycling following the analysis of recycling systems, its elements, mutual interactions and the ways of its existing in the real condit...

CONTROL PC BY EYE MOVEMENT USING A WEBCAM

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, L. Lichev, A. Wojnar)

At present, conventional peripheral computer devices use the latest hi-tech technologies of their industry in order to facilitate PC operation. However, there are many people with severe disablement, who are not able to control their PC in a standard way with the help of a keyboard and a mouse. For the sake of these people it is necessary to find a new solution for PC controlling. One of the possible options would be an analysis of an eye movement, because this human organ is left intact even if the rest of the bo...

COOPERATION BETWEEN SCHOOL AND INDUSTRY TO HIGHER QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, T. FIRLAR, K. Temizyurek)

In this competitive world Turkey needs well trained, highly qualified, productive, problem solver technicians for the industry. Engineers and technicians school learning are becoming voided compare to new developments. They have to improve and educate themselves permanently. As its known vocational schools are for educate people to fill in spaces between engineers and technicians in the industry. A person who graduated from these schools has to be knowledged to understand an engineer and have the skills and knowle...

DECOLORIZATION OF ACID YELLOW 42 AS A MODEL CONTAMINANT BY FENTON AND ELECTRO-FENTON PROCESSES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, N. Modirshahla, N. Galebsaz-Jeddi, M. A. Behnajady, A. Mohammadivand, K. S. Gitiban, B. Vahid)

The decolorization of Acid Yellow 42 (AY42) by Fenton and electro-Fenton processes was compared. The effect of operational parameters was studied and the desired conditions obtained in the initial dye concentration of 120 mg L-1 for H2O2/ Fe2+ ([H2O2]=800 mg L-1, [Fe2+]=0.2 mmol, pH=3) and electrolysis/Fe2+/H2O2 ([H2O2]=1100 mg L-1 , [Fe2+]= 0.5 mmol, pH=3.5 and distance of electrodes 10 mm) systems. The Fenton process proved to be more efficient and occurs at a higher oxidation rate than electro-Fenton process an...

DEFINING SAFE WORKING TIME UNDER HEAVY CLIMATE CONDITIONS IN DEEP MINES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. Struminski, S. Gajosinski, M. Nowysz)

Basing on physical model of heat exchange between human body and environment, predicted thermal load under the work site parameters, specific for deep mines, was defined in the paper. The relationships included in EN ISO 7933 standard were used for this purpose. Level of heat accumulation, degree of skin moistness, maximum volume of sweat and body dehydration were evaluated. These parameters we used to define the safe time of work under difficult climate conditions. The calculations were made in respect of acclima...

DEFORMATION ANALYSIS USING THE S TRANSFORMATION AND KALMAN FILTERING TECHNIQUE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, S. Doganalp, B. Turgut, C. Inal)

Deformation measurements and analysis are one of the most significant subjects in geodesy. Deformation monitoring and taking precautions on time is very important for safety of people and facilities. In this research, three period measurements were done in a trigonometric levelling network. S transformation and Kalman filtering techniques were performed for detection of vertical deformations. Results showed that both methods determined vertical displacements at the same points. Moreover, the values of velocity and...

DELPAT APPLICATIONS AND GROUND VIBRATION ANALYSIS CAUSED BY BLASTING AT EXCAVATION OF BOYABAT DAM AND H.P.P. CONSTRUCTION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, U. Kalayci, U. Ozer, A. Karadogan, M. CAN Celiksirt, V. Erkan)

DelPat program makes possible to design of blasting operations and cost estimation with ground vibration analysis arising from blasting. In this study, these applications of DelPat program were used for blasting works in excavation of Boyabat Dam and H.P.P. (Hydroelectric Power Plant) construction and the results were researched extensively. Blasting design was done and the results of planned blasting works and ground vibration measurements were analyzed by use of DelPat. At the end of some shots, 35 events were r...
