INVESTIGATION OF ULTRASONICS SOUND WAVES (P AND S) BEHAVIOUR UNDER DIFFERENT PRESSURE FOR IGNEOUS ROCKS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Atici, Umit)

An ultrasonic sound wave has been used in rock mechanics to determine rock properties for many years. Because it is a relatively simple, low-cost and non-destructive testing method compared to others. Water content, porosity, and cracks in the rocks structure are some of the most important parameters for P and S-wave speed. In Rocks, under uniaxial compression stress, the account of space inside the compressed rock is reduced while an ultrasonic sound waves speed is increased. However, after a certain level of com...

The mineralogical and technological study of gold ores and dressing products demonstrate the persistence of both the ores and products of their dressing, especially Floatation concentrates. The gold loss in the tails of Floatation beneficiation are primarily associated with the smallest size fractions less than 20 microns, which make up to 70\% of the total lost gold in the Floatation tails. It is obvious that increasing the extraction of gold by Floatation is directly linked to the development of the technologica...

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Constantin, Diaconu Daniel, Amadeus, Tiscovschi Adrian)

In the current context of rapid economic growth of eastern and south-eastern European countries, the pressure exerted on the environment is in certain cases considerable, having repercussions that are not easily assessable and remediable. The Bistroe navigation channel is a Ukrainian investment within the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve; its objectives are reducing navigation expenses for the Ukrainian fleet and lowering the country’s unemployment rate. According to Ukraine officials, the losses caused by the use o...

ECOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF MICROBIALLY-TREATED HYDROXYAPATITE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, N. Vassilev, A. Reyes, D. Altmajer, M. Serrano, D. Sanchez, M. Vassileva)

Current management of phosphate-bearing resources (mainly rock phosphates, RPs), which in fact are finite non-renewable sources, is quite far from the principles of sustainability and may cause an escalating price increase mainly because of increases in RP-processing costs. One of the most studied approaches in solubilization of insoluble phosphates is the biological treatment of phosphate-bearing materials. In this work, we propose a microbial extraction of phosphate from insoluble inorganic natural sources as a ...

INVESTIGATION OF CASSITERITES AND THEIR COLUMBITE-TANTALITE INCLUSIONS IN RARE METAL PEGMATITES OF THE EAST SAYAN BELT BY X-RAY ELECTRON PROBE MICROANALYSIS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Belozerova, Olga, Makagon, Vladimir)

The X-ray electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) technique is developed for cassiterites and minerals of Ta and Nb. The phase and chemical composition of rare metal pegmatite cassiterites of the East Sayan Belt and their inclusions of Ta and Nb minerals were studied using the EPMA technique. The results of cassiterite investigations showed, that niobium and tantalum are contained both in isomorphous form, substituting the tin in the matrix of mineral and as mineral inclusions of columbitetantalites. The distribution ...

WELL PLACEMENT OPTIMIZATION FOR WATER INJECTION WELLS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Rasouli, Hanieh, Rashidi, Fariborz, Khamehchi, Ehsan, Ebrahimian, Amir)

Determining the optimal location of wells with the aid of an automated search method can significantly increase a project’s net present value as modeled in a reservoir simulator. This work addresses the efficient solution of this problem by using advanced techniques for coupling two important components of autonomic optimization: Dynamic model using Eclipse simulator software (E100), an optimization technique based on the genetic algorithm (GA). Profits and costs during the time period of the project were taken in...

PREDICTION OF GROUND VIBRATIONS INDUCED BY BLASTING AT CEBECI QUARRIES IN ISTANBUL-TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Kaya, Ertugrul, Tuncer, Gungor, Bicer, Suat)

During the production and service to the humanity of mine resources that are needed both by industry and construction of new grand buildings and plants that are the basic news of the modern world parallel to the urbanization and the increase in population, it is known that, like it has been in the past and will be in the future, works of excavation by blastings are inevitable. In order to designate the effects of the blastings on surrounding area, measurements of concussion and air shocks are very important. This ...

WASTE AUDIT AND RECYCLING AT UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE HALLS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Hasan, Syed, Johnston, Rhonda)

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), a state-supported higher education institution, is located in a large metropolitan area in the central United States. In order to evaluate students’ attitude toward recycling and environmental sustainability, a waste audit along with a survey was conducted at three residence halls at UMKC in fall of 2009 as part of a term project for the “Introduction to Waste Management” class. The residence halls were audited by student teams that physically sorted all solid waste i...

QUALITY ANALYSIS OF GEODETIC CONTROL FOR ARENA ZAGREB CONSTRUCTION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Novakovic, Gorana, Babic, Kresimir, Rajakovic, Marina)

Since the geodetic control points are the base for all surveying tasks, the quality of these tasks will directly depend of the quality of geodetic control. The main two elements of geodetic network quality (accuracy) are its precision and reliability. There are different precision and reliability measures for the geodetic control. The positioning precision, as one of the most important component of geodetic network quality, has been expressed in various ways depending on the positioning method. The standards have ...

OPTIMIZATION OF PROCESS PARAMETERS FOR SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF THE GRANITE IN ABRASIVE WATERJET CUTTING

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Karakurt, Izzet, Aydin, Gokhan, Aydiner, Kerim)

Recent trends in the ornamental industry have increased the use of granite for various decorative applications owing to its outstanding mechanical properties and multicolor. Machining of granites with conventional systems is costly. Therefore, new technologies are being developed for cutting and processing applications of granites. Abrasive waterjet cutting (AWJ) is one of the non-traditional machining processes that have been used extensively in various industrial applications. It enables to cut materials being h...

LEAD FRACTIONATION IN A SLUDGE-AMENDED MONTMORILLONITIC VERTISOL

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Ngole, Veronica, Ekosse, Georges-Ivo)

Lead (Pb) mobility in soils and hence its availability for plant uptake may be influenced by several soil properties, some of which are modified by sludge application. It is therefore imperative to understand how these modified properties affect Pb concentrations in different geochemical fractions of sludge-amended soils. Vertisols are common in arid- and semi-arid areas and are used extensively for agriculture. This study aimed at determining the relationship between selected soil properties (pH, organic matter (...
