(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2009, G. Bourmas, M. Tsakiri)

One of the major concerns in all underground mine excavations is the stability of the stopes, the empty spaces which are created throughout the excavation process. Typically, the mining engineer supports or reinforces the stopes when needed, by means of rockbolts, wire meshes and steel sets. At the same time, a monitoring system based on geotechnical or geodetic measurements can provide against tiny displacements of control targets. This paper presents the application of artificial intelligence techniques, namely,...

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2007, D. Barkovic, M. Zrinjski, L. Redovnikovic)

Building a tunnel is a very expensive construction task, especially when cutting a tunnel in inconvenient geological conditions. The tunnel building is made drastically more expensive by badly executed works on the cutting itself, i.e. the excavation, and it happens when the areas of excavation cross-sections differ from the areas of designed profiles. It is therefore very important to monitor, apart from the direction of tunnel cutting in terms of position and height, also the areas of cross sections of the excav...

THE TECHNIQUE OF VERY LONG BASELINE INTERFEROMETRY (VLBI). FIRST RESULTS OF PROCESSING OF VLBI DATA IN BULGARIA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2006, I. Zdravchev, I. Ivanova)

Each of the spatial methods provides data in a different and a unique way for the three main geodetic directions: geometry of the Earth – coordinates of points and deformation; orientation and rotation of the Earth; gravity field as well as its variations. One of these methods, which is the most accurate and hopeful nowadays, is the Very Long Baseline Interferometry. In this paper it is gone into the technique of VLBI and its applications, mainly in geodesy and geodynamics. It is made an analysis of the motion o...

A STUDY ON ACTIVITY OF THE NORTHERN BRANCH OF THE NORTH ANATOLIAN FAULT THE 17TH AUGUST 1999 MARMARA EARTHQUAKE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, E. Kerey, S. Sen)

This study aims at understanding the activity of northern branch of the North Anatolian Fault. The AvcД±lar and adjacent areas were chosen as a study area as the Marmara Earthquake had caused severe damage and fatalities in Avcilar. We carried out a fieldwork in the area and found out surface fractures. We then integrated in to our map existing seismological-seismic and damaged distribution data. We propose that the damage to the W of Д°stanbul, especially in Avcilar was caused mainly by re-activation of younger f...
