THE METODOLOGY OF RESTORATION OF RADOVESICE - THE GREATEST DUMP OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2009, M. Rehor, V. Ondracek, T. Lang)

The difficulty in reclamation of the North Bohemian Basin dumps consists in extremely severe properties of rocks in most of the dumps. It mainly concerns the rocks of the overlaying formation and the formation of brown coal seams. Sands, kaolinitic clayey sands and kaolinitic and illitic clays are the main materials bulk to the dumps. The admixtures of the bulk rocks consist of organic coal, siderite and pyrite. These rocks are mechanically unstable against wind and water erosion and they have obtained adverse, ac...

GEOLOGY, MINERALOGY AND METHODOLOGY OF COAL MINING IN GREAT COAL BASINS OF THE BORNEO ISLAND

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, M. Rehor, L. Zizka, T. Lang)

The state of Sarawak, situated on northern part of the Borneo Island, is the part of Malaysia Federation. Main raw materials usable for the Sarawak economy are oil, wood, and natural gas. Nowadays the importance of brown coal as a raw material is caused by the growing needs of power in the Sarawak. It is the reason of working trip of authors of this article to the area of Merit Pila. They worked there as Deputy Mine Managers in 2006 and 2007. Merit Pila is great coal basin situated in central Sarawak. The paper br...

MINING OF BROWN COAL AND DUMP RECLAMATION IN NORTH - WESTERN BOHEMIA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, M. Rehor, T. Lang, V. Ondracek)

Nowadays the importance of brown coal as a raw material is caused by growing needs of power in the Czech Republic. It namely concerns the only major domestic fossil raw material without which our country would become fully depended on the import of energy resources. Over 70\% brown coal reserves have been exploited in the North- Bohemian Basin today. Opencast mining of brown coal naturally led to vast landscape damages. Therefore reclamation work has acquired great significance. Brown coal is mined in four general...

SORBENTS OF NORTH-WESTERN BOHEMIA, THEIR UTILIZATION FOR RECLAMATION WORKS AND POSSIBILITIES OF SMECTITE STRUCTURE MODIFICATION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, T. Lang, M. Rehor, L. Zizka, V. Cablik)

Clay sorbents from the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin represent important but still somewhat neglected accessory raw material. Submitted paper is concerned with relation between mineral structure, sorptive efficiency and reclamation exploitation of these rocks. Characters and localities of main clay sorbents from the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin are shortly evaluated in an introduction. In next part, methodology of mineralogy survey for these accessory raw materials is stated, it is based on diffract analyse w...

BENTONITE LOCALITIES IN THE NORTH -BOHEMIAN BROWN-COAL BASIN AND THEIR POTENTIAL UTILIZATION AS CLAY SORBENTS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2006, M. Rehor, T. Lang, V. Cablik)

A significant range of the landscaped damaged by brown coal mining is one of the base problems of the region of the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin. The proper application of fertilizable rocks to sterile and phyto-toxic sits is the condition of the success of reclamation works. Natural clayey sorbents are usually of very good use, but the North Bohemian Basin is quite poor with them. Bentonite deposits are significant exceptions. They are a part of tertiary vulcanodetritic strata of the subsoil of a coal seam. Th...

THE HISTORY OF MINING AND RECLAMATION AND FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH NEW ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION METHODS IN NORTH-WESTERN BOHEMIA REGION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2006, M. Rehor, T. Lang)

The North-Western Bohemia region takes a unique position in the history of mining in the Czech Republic. Several ore districts are situated here, the welfare of which influenced the development of the Czech state in some periods. Some precious stones mining was also significant. Today the North-Bohemian Basin area is known for its largest Czech brown coal deposit. Whereas ore mining in the region extinguished and the other raw materials mining has relatively small significance, coal mining and the restoration of d...

USE OF EROSION MODEL IN RECLAMATION AND REGENERATION OF THE AREA AFFECTED WITH MINING

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2006, T. Lang, M. Rehor, J. Halir)

ATLAS DMT software contains a set of suitable application tools. One of them is the EROZE tool (Erosion), which allows the calculation of the long-term loss of soil from the area i.e. soil lost. The EROZE tool uses for the calculation a quantity effect of water erosion caused lost soil, so called universal equation (Wischmeier - Smith). It is possible to combine the EROZE tool with the other application modules of the ATLAS DMT software, therefore it offers a lot of the possibilities for the practical utilization....

RESULTS OF APPLICATION OF SOME NON –TRADITIONAL RESTORATION METHODS ON NORTH BOHEMIAN MINES LOCATIONS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, M. Rehor, T. Lang, V. Ondracek, H. Lorencova)

The North-Bohemian Basin area is known for its largest Czech brown coal deposit. About 50\% brown coal reserves have been exploited in the North-Bohemian Basin by the mining company of Severoceske doly, a.s. (North Bohemian Mines) today. The opencast mining of brown coal naturally led to vast landscape damages. Therefore reclamation work has acquired great significance. The specific feature of Severoceske doly, a.s. mining is the fact that the mining has been realized in two geologically absolutely different local...

HISTORY, THE PRESENT AND PERSPECTIVES OF THE NORTH BOHEMIAN BROWN COAL BASIN AREA RECLAMATIONS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2004, M. Rehor, M. Safarova, T. Lang)

Brown coal is the only significant domestic fossil raw material, without which the Czech Republic would become fully dependent on energy sources import. More than 70 \% of mined brown coal comes from North Bohemian Basin these days. Open cast brown coal mining has lead to large damage on the landscape. That is why the reclamation work has become important on principle recently. The technology of reclamation passed through qualitative development within the past twenty years. The construction of mine dumps has been...
